Everyone was really excited to get to the 40' strip of oats & peas hiding on the other side of the birm tonight.
Not much bounce left in the kern after it has been swimming for 2 weeks. About 1/2 or more of the field will be gone.
@GGunthorp I tried some small plots for a couple of years. Year 2 of this configuration: 3-30" rows, 2 rows off. More sunlight getting to the corn, and better CC growth. Drone flew the CC on yesterday. Not the planned seeding method, but it should work this year.
Around 1,000 separator hours on Deere S780, and needing to replace quite a few belts this year. Tried an A&I brand last year on chopper drive belt, and it needs replaced again this year. Any opinions on aftermarket or stick with the Deere brand belts? A&I did not hold up well.
Monocrop wheat is starting to head out, relay wheat is a few days behind. Same variety all planted within 2 days end of Sept. I have never had wheat head out in April in Central IL.
Relay beans are emerging.
@FoulkShay@jasonmauck1 Trucks driving by on the dirt road. Definitely not the fastest way from point from point A - B. But something to look at when their bored on a Saturday afternoon. #farmweird
@JerodMcDaniel@MichaelFerro I may not be considered a serious rancher, but collars have been a game changer for me in the I states. No fence infrastructure left, far less of an investment in collars than permanent fence. And yes, they do break, but overall it has been positive.
@jasonmauck1 A few weeks before my dad passed away he told me: "Focus on the things in life that matter, you won't take any of "it" with you. "
Jason, thanks for being a leader and pressing on!
@Farnsfarm I would agree with the other comment on being too narrow. When I use my collars to move cows between pastures on the road, I have to set the boundaries at the field edges. It is an audible alert, so every time they hear the tone, they instinctively turn.
@jasonmauck1 I would say 5" more rain and it had to come twice as fast as it did on your field. That is what I have been told in the past with similar situations in our area. You can't control every rain event, but there are differences. #waterinfiltration#soilhealth
Still eating radishes and turnips today from a summer mix. Wheat/ summer 12 way CC mix baled and wet wrapped mid August/ winter grazing of the leftovers.
Iโm a huge fan of Grassfed and direct marketing.
The low hanging fruit for regenerative practices in the US isnโt direct marketed Grassfed beef. Itโs adding more pounds to existing systems and more calves and lambs with existing acres, new acres, and crop integration.
