Everyone in Delhi does cycle , but just not the people you think.

Those rows of Hero and Atlas cycles you see? They’re not used by the “urban cycling movement.” They belong to guards, delivery boys, and housekeeping staff ; people who can’t afford ₹60 a day on buses or ₹120 on the metro.

At the other end are Lycra-clad professionals on imported bikes worth a month’s salary for the first group. Cycling for fitness and Sunday selfies.

The missing middle? The salaried Delhiite who’d rather pay ₹50 more for an auto or ₹100 for a cab than fry on tarmac at 44 °C with an AQI of 350.

Delhi’s heat index literally hit 51.9 °C this summer, and less than 12 % of the year is “comfortably breathable.”

So yes, Delhi has cycles. Just not many cyclists by choice.
