It’s 8:45am and day two of Stuart’s surgery. Time to reconstruct the pelvis - fitting two stomas.

The surgical team's main task is to use a length of harvested small bowel to redirect urine to the stoma.

Meet Amanda and Anna, part of our stoma specialist nurse team.

Stomas provide a lifeline for over 175,000 people in the UK, allowing bodies to complete an essential function.

They’ll be visiting Stuart after his surgery.

At least 14 hours of surgery will be required - with a surgical team of 20. This includes two anaesthetists and seven scrub nurses.

The operation is so complex, that it has 24 stages all listed for the surgical team to reference.
