Ryan Smith said on the Pat McAfee Show that the Jazz received calls about the No. 2 pick and that teams were “offering the farm” to try and get into the top three. 👀
Utah Jazz have Darryn Peterson number 1 on their draft board. Washington Wizards realize this and have made DP feel like he will go 1. The Wizards are trying to trick the Jazz into giving up assets to select to trade up. Wizards want AJ Dybansta. They are hoping to fool the Jazz
Fifa’s shift from goal difference to head-to-head to decide groups is an inexplicably terrible decision that has needlessly killed or muted loads of final-round group games
USA-Turkey would have tonnes on it, for one
Now it’s a needless dead rubber

Jazz-related notes (from my early AM listening):
-Said Darryn Peterson might have the highest ceiling of all these guys
-Bill: with JJJ, Kessler, Lauri, Keyonte, DP, Ace (as sixth man?), Sensabaugh...could be the 6th seed
-Calls Ryan Smith "an owner who's going to spend $$"
-DP could average 20 PPG
-The shooting 1 through 5 is crazy
"The Jazz have this sight unseen team that might be...are they better than the Suns and Blazers instantly with the roster they have?
-DP goes there with Will Hardy, stable ownership, thirsty and starving fan base that will show up in big ways
-Danny Ainge has an awesome track record taking elite guys and that makes Bill feel good about DP. He hones in on star talent in a unique way-- a great sign for the Jazz
-No one in the past 30 yrs has come in looking most like Kobe. There are red flags, though.
-Utah is "the best scenario for him"
-"Peterson's going to look incredible in Utah." Likened him to Dylan Harper in SAS.
Gotta see how everyone plays, but on paper, the talent and length is absolutely insane. If the Lakers were rolling out this lineup next season, the talking heads wouldn’t shut up about it.
I’d love to see the Jazz trade Brice and/or Flip today, and get back into the 2nd round. I don’t follow college enough to pretend like I know a lot, but there’s guys worth taking a swing at. Also, I think Richie could be a Sam Merrill type guy. I would LOVE to see the Jazz pick him up.
If the Jazz are really going to be a playoff team, they need 7th/8th/9th men who know how to impact winning. Maybe some of these guys can take leaps. But adding dudes who raise the bar for Zay/Brice/Flip/Cody to earn minutes is a good thing if you want a postseason.
I’ll have a lot more coming on free agency soon, including my massive yearly opus.
But one thing Jazz fans should start to rethink is the notion of “why do they need (solid rotation vet with experience contributing on a good team) when they already have (Zay/Brice/Cody/Flip)”
CBS Sports projects Richie Saunders going No. 35 to the Denver Nuggets.
This would be IDEAL. Win-now team with a solid roster and culture.
Imagine Richie spotting up on the 3-point line as Nikola Jokic draws defenders and sets up a cross-court pass…
It got a little lost in the shuffle last night, but talking with people around the NBA at the draft and the thing I heard consistently is that Jaren Jackson Jr. is everyone’s favorite person.
That’s been the case since he got traded to Utah and it’s been uniquely universal.
A couple random notes I noticed from consuming all the Jazz draft content tonight:
Ryan, Austin, and Will all referenced Walker Kessler at some point. That deal is getting done.
Avery Bradley is a sneaky really huge part of the Jazz….
UNPOPULAR OPINION I WILL NOT BE TAKING BACK: a 40-hour work week was designed around a single-income household that doesn't exist anymore.
It should not still be the default.
