I like that this activity also encourages chunking instead of just pushing beads one by one. This is a fun manipulative to use to show there is more than one way to come up with an answer!
So many activities and ways you can represent a number using a Renerek! Here we showed the number 17 in one way. This would be a great activity to do with students when working on place value & different ways to represent numbers! #411MNSUF19
This game is called my ten frame riddle. It helps students learn how to draw out numbers and see what the number is as a visual. Instead of counting dots, students can just look at the card and know the number right away. Great activity for teaching numbers! #411MNSUF19
In our Elementary Math Methods class we were able to use different manipulatives. The Rekenrek encourages students to build numbers in groups of fives and tens. This activity allows students to chunk and combine numbers instead of just counting one by one. #411MNSUF19
It is important for educators to recognize this! Every student deserves equal experiences not only in mathematics, but in all subjects. Every student has potential to learn! #411MNSUF19#NCTMNash19
We don’t have school systems designed for equal experiences for students or teachers.. we have work to do to make sure ALL students can reach their potential. Injustice is baked into the system- so our work must start with access...#NCTMNash19 1/x
It is important as educators to recognize not only our strengths but the strengths of our students. We then need to facilitate and develop these strengths! #411MNSUF19#NCTMNash19
It is so important to develop meaningful relationships with our students and their families! learning doesn't stop when they leave the classroom and should be encouraged at home as well! #411MNSUF19#NCTMNash19
Would you rather share the big chocolate bar(2.8 oz) (on the left) with 1 friend, or share the entire bag of mini chocolate chips (9 oz) (on the right) with 5 friends? @Jstevens009#WYRmath#411MNSUF19
What I get from this is "You are not important enough to remember" No student should feel undervalued. Times are changing, not everyones name is Jon Smith... We have responsibilities as future educators! #411MNSUF19
So powerful! Social Justice is not going away. We need to advocate for those that have experienced injustice. We need to be genuine and ready for change. #411MNSUF19
Social justice is not a fad
Social justice is not a trend
Social justice is not a tool
to be manipulated to get more followers.
Too many are in pain due to injustices that have gone unchecked for far too long.
Justice is too important to waste time on counterfeit advocacy.
It is imperative as future educators to encourage and include every student regardless of race, gender, etc.. No individual should feel "othered" It is time to diversify and change our idea of the stereotypical "teacher" #411MNSUF19
“If you believe in your unlimited potential, you will achieve at higher levels, in math & in life.” -@joboaler We need to help children have a #growthmindset, to believe they can learn anything they set their mind to! #mathmindset#mindsetmath#411MNSUF19
In a TED Talk @joboaler, confirms that "It's okay to make mistakes" We need our students to understand this in order to have a #growthmindset especially in Mathematics! #411MNSUF19
