Among the most memorable moments of our Polio Oversight Board mission to Pakistan was meeting the remarkable women on the frontlines of the country’s efforts to eradicate polio.

Nearly 60% of the 400,000 frontline polio workers mobilized by Pakistan with support from @WHO are women. Their dedication, resilience and courage have been instrumental in the remarkable progress Pakistan has made towards ending polio. It was a privilege to hear their stories and witness their unwavering commitment to protecting every child.

As a GPEI Gender Champion, I remain committed to supporting female polio workers and advocating for their safe, meaningful and sustained participation at every level of the programme. Together, we can reach every child and build a #PolioFree future.

I am deeply saddened by the devastating floods and landslides in Bangladesh. My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones, and my thoughts and prayers are with all those displaced and affected by this disaster.

On the Sidelines of the Women Ministerial Conference in Islamabad: Amb Dr. Tareg Bakheet Meets with the Turkish Minister of Family Affairs to Discuss Strengthening Partnership and Supporting Women’s Empowerment

His Excellency Amb Dr. Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), met today with Her Excellency Ms. Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Minister of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Türkiye, on the sidelines of the 9th Session of the Ministerial Conference on Women, being held in the Pakistani capital Islamabad from July 12 to 13.
The meeting featured fruitful discussions on ways to enhance prospects for joint cooperation and coordinate efforts between the Organization and the Republic of Turkey to support women’s issues and build their capacities in the Islamic world, in line with the Organization’s development goals.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Tareg Bakheet expressed the sincere thanks and appreciation of the Organization’s General Secretariat to the Republic of Turkey for its continued support of the Organization and its bodies, particularly its support for the Organization’s Advisory Council for Women, emphasizing that this support is a fundamental pillar enabling the Council to implement its ambitious programs.
As part of efforts to strengthen the organization’s institutional framework, the Assistant Secretary-General called on the Turkish side to expedite ratification of the Women’s Development Organization’s charter, emphasizing that completing these legal procedures will enable the organization to operate at full capacity and play its vital and effective role in advancing women’s issues and empowering women in Islamic societies.

Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 held a telephone conversation today with His Excellency Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran. @araghchi

Both leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation. DPM/FM stressed upon the parties to follow the path of de-escalation and show restraint, as agreed in the Islamabad MOU in June 2026. He further underscored that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

DPM/FM reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in promoting and maintaining regional peace and stability.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact.

Deeply saddened by the passing away of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Former Amir of the State of Qatar.

The Father Amir, late Sheikh Hamad was a great leader and statesman whose wisdom, foresight and dedication to public service, transformed Qatar into a modern, prosperous and globally respected nation. His enduring contributions to the welfare of his nation and its people, as well as to regional peace, development and international cooperation, will be remembered for generations to come.

On behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan, as well as on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences to my Dear Brother the Amir of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the distinguished members of the Al Thani family, the Government, as well as the brotherly people of Qatar on this solemn occasion. We stand in solidarity with them in this moment of profound grief.

We will always cherish the Father Amir’s warmth, kindness and deep affection for Pakistan, as well as the fond memories of his many visits to our country.

The annual Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair organized annually since 1993 has grown into a premier international expo showcasing innovation, high quality goods and products. Tashkent: Talks between Amb Tarig Ali Bakheet and the Pakistani Minister of Culture

Tashkent, 11 July 2026

On the sidelines of the First International Forum on Islamic Civilisation, held in the Republic of Uzbekistan from 7 to 11 July, the Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Dr. Tarig Ali Bakheet, held a high-level working meeting with His Excellency the Pakistani Minister of Culture, Mr Aurangzeb Khan Khishi.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed prospects for joint cooperation between the General Secretariat and the Pakistani Ministry of Culture, and discussed ways to launch promising bilateral cultural initiatives. The meeting also addressed mechanisms for enhancing the presence of Pakistani cultural institutions and strengthening their participation in the various activities and programmes organised by the Organisation and its specialised agencies.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a warm and cordial telephone conversation today with the Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

During their discussion, the Prime Minister expressed his deep concern over the recent escalation in tensions in the region. While conveying Pakistan’s solidarity and support with the people of Qatar on the recent attacks, the Prime Minister stressed upon all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that could undermine peace in the region.

The Prime Minister conveyed Pakistan’s sincere gratitude to His Highness the Amir for Qatar’s consistent and steadfast support in the peace efforts that culminated in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and the first round of high-level technical talks at Burgenstock.

The two leaders agreed upon the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and dialogue, and adherence to the commitments made by all parties under the peace memorandum.
His Highness the Amir thanked the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for playing a leading role for peace in the region and assured him of Qatar’s continued support in this regard.
