George is saying with hindsight that he’d have like to be pit but the fact is that he had the best strategy. He lost 4+s to Perez in the VSC and lost the race by 3.5s. Literally shows him ending ahead Kimi.

@KleinBlue1129 @sophcvj Why do you think literally no one doing the 0 stop pit during VSC. Reminder, Perez cost Russell 4+s and then Kimi won the race by 3.5s. Had Russell got the extra time, the simulation was correctly showing that Kimi wouldn’t catch Russell.

@KleinBlue1129 @sophcvj The lead car gets the preferential strategy but they won’t pit the lead car if it harms their race. Literally the 0 stop was the best strategy. For George Russell, the best possible strategy was to stay out. Even if Kimi wasn’t in the race, they’d still not pit Russell during VSC

@sophcvj Here’s some data.Mercedes software showed that 0 stop hard strategy was the fastest for Russell and that Kimi would not catch him by end of race. Then unfortunately Russell lost 4s to Perez. Russell then lost the race by 3.5s~. So had Russell not got unlucky with Perez, he wins.

@russellsblue Oh and btw, George Russell himself said that “I didn’t even consider pitting under VSC” and that “Kimi had to be the one to pit since he was on mediums”. Nico rosberg, Palmer, Planetf1,Motorsport. com and sky sports all released articles on why the current strategy was best.

@russellsblue He was able to pull a 2s gap at one point but then gave it up. Russell had 20 laps to open up the hards and couldn’t even build a half second lead on verstappen? Given how much faster the Mercedes is there’s no excuse for it. The strategy he got is perfect. It was the best one.
