I've seen a couple of posts elsewhere about people who now watch movies and TV shows with an AI voice chat on so it can listen to the dialogue and explain to them what is happening in the show as it happens.
This is why dialogue is getting genuinely worse, including the atrocious dialogue in Nolan's Odyssey. Not only is much of it being written *by AI* but it's having to be written *for* people who will only half pay attention to it and who will outsource their interpretive faculties.
Berberine has been on my radar for glucose control for years, and this new study caught my attention.
People who took a biooptimized form of berberine at just 200 mg/day for 2 weeks saw reductions in fasting glucose, improved glucose tolerance, and a 22-29% increase in fasting and post-meal GLP-1 levels.
The GLP-1 finding is particularly interesting because it suggests berberine may influence some of the same incretin biology that has become such a major focus in metabolic health.
Berberine isn’t part of my regular supplement routine anymore (I've shifted more toward alpha-lipoic acid), although I still think the evidence for glucose and lipid control is interesting. These results make me interested in seeing larger, independent, longer-term trials of lower-dose, more bioavailable formulations.
We have come at last to this Lady Day at the end of summer, our Queen's own personal Pascha. I find once again I am a very poor, unworthy servant, and that she once again makes herself known in my life in strange and wondrous ways.
Happy home-going, Queen and Lady. It is right to call you blessed.
Creatine is a supplement most women should be taking, especially post-menopause.
5 grams/day combined with resistance exercise increases lean mass and muscle strength but has inconsistent effects on bone mineral density.
It makes productive training slightly more productive.
Exercise literally increases the size of your brain.
Older adults who engaged in moderate-intensity aerobic exercise three times per week for one year saw a 2% increase in the size of their hippocampus.
Hippocampal volume shrinks 1–2% per year, so a 2% increase is equivalent to adding between 1 to 2 years worth of volume for this age group!
Saunas won’t detox microplastics from your body
There is no established mechanism for plastic particles in the bloodstream to escape through your sweat glands
Once microplastics enter circulation, they’re difficult to remove, making it more practical to prevent their absorption
One of the best defenses is fiber
Soluble fibers like psyllium husk and β-glucans form a viscous gel that can limit absorption, while insoluble fiber helps move plastic particles through the gut before they can enter circulation
A woman was screaming in pain and calling out to Saint John of Shanghai. The hospital doctors said, "He won't come. The hospital is closing for the night." But through the thunderstorms, the rain, and the closed doors, Saint John entered. He was soaked to the bone. He touched the woman and said, "I am not a ghost, but the most real reality." A few hours later, she was fully recovered.
I want to tell you three true stories about how Saint John, one of the most incredible saints of the 20th century, helps people—just as he did during his life, and continues to do after his death.
First story: China was under communist rule, and nearly 6,000 Russian refugees ended up on a desolate island in the Pacific Ocean. It was only 3 by 4 km in size. There was terrible poverty, tents, and nothing else. Furthermore, the island was located right in the path of seasonal typhoons. But for 27 months, not a single disaster occurred. Whenever a typhoon approached very close, it bypassed the islands. The Russians themselves were amazed and asked the locals, "How is this possible? Is such a thing even possible?" They shook their heads and replied calmly, "Well, you have a saint. Every night he visits the camp from all four sides, blesses it, and prays. Thanks to him, nothing happens." Bishop John prayed extremely fervently, and the moment the camp was evacuated, a typhoon hit and destroyed everything to the ground.
Second story: France, 1945. Anna Petrovna Lushnikova was a singing teacher whom the bishop visited for dictation lessons. She was lying seriously injured in the hospital, and during the night, she started to become delirious. She was screaming and calling out for him. The doctors explained, "It is impossible; he cannot be brought here. The hospital is closed, it is wartime, and there is a storm outside with heavy rain and hurricane-force winds. It is impossible to get here." But amid the thunder and lightning, the wet bishop walked into the room and said to her, "I am not a ghost. I am the most real reality." Then he kissed her. She fell asleep, and in the morning, she got up completely healthy. She had not been hallucinating. The woman in the neighboring bed confirmed that she saw the saint with her own eyes, and under the pillow, they found a twenty-dollar bill. That was exactly how he always paid for his lessons. How he got there, no one could explain.
Third story: Shanghai—a children's orphanage, which the bishop founded and fed by himself. He literally collected abandoned children from the streets. One day, the food ran out completely. The teachers came to him crying, "We have nothing to feed the children." Saint John began to pray. No one believed that help would come. But suddenly, a stranger knocked on the door and brought food out of nowhere. God had sent him.
Here is the character of Saint John: he went barefoot, with his soles covered in dirt. He hardly slept, only occasionally dozing off right on the floor in front of the icons. But when he prayed, God heard him, and now hears him still. Pray to Saint John. He is a swift helper. And these are not just beautiful words; this is something that people have experienced for themselves.
Holy Father John, pray to God for us.

Curcumin may be one of the most powerful naturally occurring dietary compounds for lowering age-related inflammation
Human studies show it can significantly reduce TNF-alpha, a major inflammatory cytokine that helps drive epigenetic and biological aging
Because elevated TNF-alpha is linked to faster biological aging, lowering it may be one way curcumin supports healthier aging
The phytosomal form is preferred because standard curcumin is rapidly broken down by the liver, while phytosomal delivery makes it far more bioavailable
Regular sauna users appear to develop fewer respiratory illnesses.
A new study offers a clue as to why.
After a single 30-minute sauna, several white blood cell populations, including neutrophils and lymphocytes, moved into circulation, and the response was similar regardless of participants’ usual sauna habits.
One session cannot establish a long-term immune benefit. But in a long-running Finnish study, men using a sauna two to three times weekly had a 27 percent lower risk of pneumonia, asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Among those using one at least four times weekly, the risk was 41 percent lower. A small controlled trial also found roughly half as many common colds among regular sauna users during the final three months of a six-month study.
This all suggests that repeated heat exposure may promote immune resilience by briefly mobilizing immune cells while supporting a less inflammatory resting environment over time.
So no matter what we do, we keep rediscovering the Orthodox diet (~210 vegan days).
The common mistake is to ignore intermittence (under convex effects).

Two years of structured, vigorous exercise reversed about 20 years of age-related structural changes in the hearts of sedentary 50-year-olds
As the heart ages, it tends to shrink and stiffen, impairing cardiovascular function and increasing disease risk
Dr. Ben Levine’s team gradually built participants up to 5–6 hours of weekly training, combining Norwegian 4x4 intervals, endurance exercise, and twice-weekly strength work
By the end of the study, their 52-year-old hearts structurally resembled those of people roughly 20 years younger
Fiber may be one of the most important nutrients for both immune regulation and colon cancer prevention
When gut bacteria ferment fiber, they produce short-chain fatty acids like butyrate that act as signaling molecules throughout the body
These signals can promote regulatory T cells that help prevent inappropriate immune attacks and cytotoxic T lymphocytes that recognize and kill cancer cells
The target is ~14 grams of fiber per 1,000 calories, or roughly 25–30 grams per day (an intake most Americans fall well short of)
Visceral fat may be one of the most underrated contributors to chronic fatigue, brain fog, and cravings
This deep fat sits around organs like the liver and releases inflammatory molecules that keep the immune system activated
That immune activation is energy-expensive, which can show up as fatigue, brain fog, energy crashes, and cravings
High visceral fat is also linked to ~44% higher cancer risk and roughly double the risk of dying early
The good news: it's often one of the first fat stores to shrink with a calorie deficit, high-intensity exercise, better sleep, and stress control
Georges St-Pierre tried fasting on a friend’s advice.
After a 72-hour water fast, his ulcerative colitis symptoms dropped dramatically. Nagging injuries and inflammation vanished, even a stubborn Achilles tendon issue healed.
He now does four fasts a year.
Fasting triggers autophagy, where the body clears damaged cells and reduces inflammation, which can help with autoimmune conditions and injury recovery.
A surprising recovery story from one of the greatest fighters ever.
