Over 100 years ago medical education was changed for the better. Abraham Flexner provided a report on the status of American and Canadian medical schools that led to standardization of medical education and dramatically advanced the field. Nurse Practitioners need their Flexner Report.
A recent article by @business outlined what many of us in medicine already know…. The field of Nurse Practitioners has been overtaken by those motivated purely by profit who have preyed on unsuspecting nurses looking to advance their careers. Far too many graduates have no experience and are ill prepared for the critical function that midlevels perform in our medical systems. This @BeckersHR article outlines the key problems facing nursing education and I encourage everyone to read and better understand the issue.
There is a significant need for physician assistants and nurse practitioners alike given the increased demand for healthcare in the United States, but that need cannot be used as justification to provide subpar education that puts patients at risk. As a society and a country we must demand better.

This is a great update by @TexMed Pres. @DocRayC Callas regarding scope expansion bills and what #TMA - with help from @AmerMedicalAssn - is doing to stop them.

Insurance Watchdog Coalition is working to educate Americans & elected officials on the dangers posed by Big Insurance. Healthcare monopolies, like UnitedHealth, are seeking to control doctors, sensitive personal health data, & access to life-saving care.
We are here to hold them accountable:
Congrats to @DocRayC Callas on taking the reins as @TexMed president. Well deserved. We expect great things from you during your presidency (saving private practice, fixing Medicare payments, stopping the corporate practice of medicine), but no pressure.
If you’re an independent medical professional practicing in Texas and you are not receiving payment within 30 days by fully insured plans on clean claims, send me a message on this platform.
At the heart of the '2024 TSA Anesthesiologists Days at the Capitol', Dr. Gerald Callas, MD, FASA, President of the TMA, @DocRayC advocates for what truly matters to Texas' physicians. He stands firm on preserving physician autonomy, ensuring that MD’s/DO’s retain control over clinical decisions. Dr. Callas champions the protection of medical liability reforms, safeguarding the legal environment for healthcare providers. He's leading the charge against health plan hassles, red tape, & unfair payment practices that hinder patient care. Moreover, he's taking a decisive stance to stop scope of practice expansion, maintaining the high standards of patient safety & care. Join us in supporting these pivotal initiatives that will shape the future of healthcare in Texas. #2024TSACapitolDay #PhysicianAutonomy #MedicalLiability #FairPayment #ScopeOfPractice @texmed@TSAPhysicians@TSAPAC@ASALifeline@ASAGrassroots
It’s official! Thank you @GovAbbott for recognizing January 28-February 3, 2024 as Physician Anesthesiologists week in Texas! The TSA is ready for a great year under the leadership of @udaya_bhaskar49!
Legislative Action Alert: Stop the Payment Cuts!
Time is running out. Unless Congress acts now, physicians face another Medicare payment cut – 3.37% starting Jan. 1 – on top of the cuts in previous years. Act now. https://t.co/wxmjJ04i3w
Medicare Cuts Forcing Physicians Out:
The impending 2024 cut, on top of inflation and other factors, is forcing some physicians into difficult decisions. https://t.co/RP6Q0rZEdA
Medicare payment cuts are forcing physicians to close their practices. “I'm afraid the day is near — if not already here — that there will not be enough physicians to take care of Medicare patients,” said #TMA President @RickSnyderMD via @medpagetoday. https://t.co/3jPu0MAFnm
