Finalizing budget review/vetoes and I can report:

FY 26-27 will be the fourth straight year that Florida has reduced its budget.

Rainy day fund = full (and more than triple the size from 2019).

The budget represents 44% of the size of the budget of New York (the state closes to FL in population, with NY having between 3 and 4 million fewer residents).

In 2020, Jeffrey Tucker quickly realized that mainstream reporters had no idea how viruses actually work.

So he offered to help.

He noticed that reporters didn’t even know the difference between “cases” and “infections.”

“They weren’t reporting cases.”

“They were reporting infections.”

“For a century, we’ve had this clear binary demarcation between infections… and cases.”

Infections just mean that “you’ve been exposed,” while cases actually “send you to the hospital.”

“But during the Covid period, they smashed them all together.”

“Contradicting 100 years of practice, knowledge, and data.”

“We don’t even know who’s actually sick or who’s actually getting the smaller degree of infection to train the immune system.”

Martin Kulldorff said to him: “I don’t think the reporters are well-trained on simple basics of public health and virology.”

So they created the Great Barrington Declaration, which started simply as a “teaching seminar for journalists.”

It was intended to teach journalists basic things:

“There’s a difference between cases and infections.”

“There is such a thing as natural immunity.”

“This is a respiratory virus, quickly mutating, and not likely to be something against which we can vaccinate.”

“A mask won’t protect you.”

“Plexiglass probably makes everything worse.”

So he wrote to every journalist he could and invited them to this seminar.

“Every reporter at The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal.”

And not a single one even responded, let alone showed up.

When a weathervane points north, we don’t confuse it for a compass. When the winds shift and it points south, we don’t say, “We’ve been betrayed!” We just say, “That’s what weathervanes do.” But an amazing number of people think Trump is more like a compass, pointing toward the True North of “America First” or “patriotism” or some other blather.

Every journalist who knows the importance of "follow the money" admires the data driven investigations that are the hallmark of @AsraNomani. Last October, a week before the New York mayoral election, she stitched together the complex ethno-religious web of progressive nonprofits and radical imams who had engineered Mamdani's rise to power. At the time, I was taping my "Journalism 101" course for the @petersonacademy, and I cited her meticulous reporting of what she called the "Mamdani Machine" as a prime example of data journalism.

I'm glad to see she is back on familiar ground today, at the 'spontaneous' No Kings protest in Washington D.C., where she is talking about the more than 400 organizing groups, with a $3 billion annual revenue, and the familiar big-money funders, including George Soros, Neville Roy Singham, the Tides Foundation, and many others.

What I like about Asra's reporting is that most of her work relies on publicly available sources of information, including the often dense 990 tax filings of the groups themselves. It is tedious and time-consuming work but the results never cease to surprise.
