She is 71. Suppose she remains in that house until age 91. That's 20 years. Suppose she decides to pay 100% of her taxes out of a reverse mortgage against her equity.

Assuming she has $2.9 million in equity at age 71, 6% interest on loan, and 4% annual growth in home value and taxes (consistent with last 22 years), at age 91 she will have:

a home worth $6.3 million
a mortgage worth $1.3 million

her heirs can inherit the house, sell it, pay the tax bill, and walk away with $5 million in cash (less income tax implications)

In what world is this lady being treated horribly?!?!? She is objectively massively wealthy and she will never have to pay a single dime of that property tax from her actual income or savings!
