After 4.5+ years, our Glacios-Selectris-Falcon4i is finally installed and we are watching Thermo Fisher‘s workflow validation using apoferritin. We are looking forward to finally start using this microscope and producing exciting new structures! 😃
@BiophysicalSoc @NICHD_NIH @NIH I’m feeling extremely honored to have been selected for this amazing award for my work over the last 10 years and beyond! Thanks to all my mentors and colleagues! 🤓
We are looking for a talented postdoc to join us by 8/24 to continue our efforts towards understanding the mechanism of Mg2+-transport & oligomerization of P-type ATPases using molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology (#cryoem) and MD. Please DM me if interested.
Tamir Gonen @gonenlab@NIH: Just amazing how far #MicroED has come over the years! High resolution structural biology of proteins and drug molecules using electron diffraction of tiny crystals at ultra low electron dose! 🤩
@maddethalawe Please send me an e-mail to [email protected] with your CV and names and contacts of 3 references and let me know why you’d like to join my lab, what your interests are, and what you’d like to work on.
It’s nice to still feel useful for people in my group who thought our filament went after 3 years.. after quickly adjusting the water flow, I was able to find the beam on our T20 😃
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our PhD student Elissa Moller for winning the BEST student talk @ today’s SMALP WebConference talking about her new mechanosensitive channel MscS cryo-EM structure in native nanodiscs using Glyco-DIBMA! 🙌🎖️🥳🥂

@Louis_Lai_TF@ProteinPatrick Fun lab dinner in Philly at the Iron Hill Brewery celebrating the last full day of the #BPS2024 meeting before going back to DC tomorrow afternoon.
75% of the Matthies lab is at the Annual Biophysical Society meeting #BPS2024 in Philly with posters and talks. If you are there as well, come talk to us!
Do you want to see me question a 20+ year old structural biology field? Then I invite you to join the #BPS2024 symposium on „New insights into ion channel (and transporter) regulation Tuesday, February 13th at 9.30 am.
The joys of being a PI! Just got the news that my super talented high-school summer student Jasmin Wu got accepted into UPENN!
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! 🥳
I am so proud of you! 🥹😃
Now out @NatureComms: Our work on human mitochondrial Mg2+ channel MRS2! The structural & functional analyses lead by Louis @louistflai provides insights into the ion translocation mechanism of this channel. #CryoEM
