The woman’s bait - Part 13 // Marital Drama
At the age of 27, I started life without the covering of my parents. Because I’d dropped out of university, I’d never lived alone. I didn’t know what to expect. It also didn’t help that even though I had no job, I rented a two-bedroom house in Kira that cost six hundred thousand shillings monthly.
Many people struggled to understand my financial logic. Why not live in a cheap house and save on the rent? “I do not live within my means,” I told them, “I live within my potential.” I knew that a cheap house was a small goal I could quickly achieve and then arrive without arriving. A house above my means challenged me and allowed me to stretch myself.
A year later, I was late on some of my bills, and the calls from some people had put me under pressure. As I panicked, I knew I needed someone to give me a loan. Family wasn’t an option. The last thing I wanted was to be educated on saving. I called a former workmate and shared my life story; sadly, he couldn’t help. Looking back at the private information I’d shared, I knew I didn't want to do it again. Then I remembered the scripture, “A borrower is a slave to the lender.”
I had a thought as I sat there under pressure and without an answer in sight. The farmer knows the season of planting and the season of harvesting. He can’t plant a seed one day and expect to harvest the next day; instead, he waits for the harvest season.
I decided to continue waiting on God for my harvest season. I contacted the responsible parties for the bills and negotiated for more time. They all accepted my request. I then learned that not all problems are solved with money; some are solved with negotiation.
About two months later, a gentleman I hadn’t heard from in over six years reached out. He had just won a big contract and needed a mobile app built. Years before, I had made his website, and when he had fallen on hard times and couldn’t pay the hosting fees, I continued hosting it for free. My season had arrived, and I made thirteen million shillings with that work. It was a breath of fresh air.
To cut a long story short, I made nearly sixty million shillings when the year closed. The road had been bumpy, but in the end, I had won. To make it even better, I won, hardly having left my house. I was convinced that the God I had trusted when I left my parents had done it again.
Ever since then, in my darkest moments, I know where to turn, from whence cometh my help. And even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for I know that the Lord my God is with me.
