Treatment Barriers and Shared Decision-Making Disparities in Kidney Cancer Across Europe: Results from the IKCC Global Patient Survey Presenter Dr. Eric Jonasch 🇺🇸
The International Kidney Cancer Coalition (IKCC) launched its fourth Global Patient Survey in 2024 and sought input from patients associated with its partner organizations on key topics pertaining to patient knowledge, engagement, and outlook. Globally, 2,677 responses were received, including 1,247 responses from Europe, with input from 1003 patients and 244 carers. Despite higher reported involvement in shared decisionmaking in Europe versus the rest of the world, significant differences are observed between countries, and barriers persist across Europe. There remains an unmet need for enhanced clinician–patient communication, improved patient education, and access to care. Working with patient organizations in a country-specific manner may help decrease disparities.

Dr. Michael Jewett receives the Dr. Nicholas Vogelzang Humanitarian Award from @KidneyCancer#IKCSNA25 & gives credit to his “patient mentors” including the formidable Deb Maskens. What a gift it was to be Dr. V’s patient. I’m alive AND a patient advocate because of him. 🧡
