๐ How did this planet survive the death of its star? โ ๏ธโญ
WD 1856 b is a Jupiter-sized exoplanet which orbits its host star (a white dwarf) extremely tightly. If it had originally been orbiting at this distance, it would have been obliterated while the star was a red giant! ๐ฅ 1/3
A 3rd launch anniversary gift for you! ๐ ๐น
In just 26 hours, @ESA_Euclid imaged millions of stars at the heart of our galaxy ๐คฉ
Hidden among them are planets we cannot see.
Yet, thanks to gravity and chance alignment, we can detect their presence.
How? ๐

New distance measurements for our galaxy ๐
@ESA_XMM & NASA's @chandraxray have measured the distance to three bright explosions echoing through the outer spiral arms of our galaxy.
In doing so, they found the arms to be up to 10% further away than we thought ๐ https://t.co/WMk1wkW3XG
Our ESA/Hubble Picture of the Month features a starry chandelier ๐ก
This is the globular cluster NGC 6723, also known as the Chandelier Cluster. Each of its โlightbulbsโ is an individual star 27,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius (the Archer) ๐น 1/3

๐ Webb has pinpointed millions of stars in the Cigar Galaxy!ย
The edge-on spiral galaxy Messier 82 (M82), also known as the Cigar Galaxy is a unique sight. It is undergoing tremendous star formation (thought to be the result of a galaxy merger) for a galaxy of its size and location. 1/3

Today, @ESA_Euclid revealed the largest, most detailed photo ever taken of our galaxy's centre in visible light ๐
This video takes you on a journey across this region.ย
Turn up the volume and enjoy our galactic centre ๐คฉ
#ESAEuclid proves time and again that it's a remarkable space telescope.
In just one day, it captured a mosaic that covers the entire region that the Roman space telescope will monitor for planet hunting, delivering essential data for this quest.

No less than 60 million stars in one image.
It's possible thanks to the @ESA_Euclid mission.
For just one day, Euclid turned its gaze to the crowded heart of the Milky Way and captured the largest, most detailed photo ever taken of our galaxy's centre in visible light.
Let's dive deeper ๐

Astronomers pointed Euclid to this area to study exoplanets using a technique called microlensing.
Discover how here ๐https://t.co/yRdDomKEFO
Thanks to these observations they will be able to confirm any exoplanet found in this region and measure its mass.
