I can't be the only one following the many upsetting global events via social media concluding that this is the most poisonous and least productive way to conduct important conversations that humans have ever been a part of. I used to think the TV of the 1980s/1990s was bad,but it apparently was Demosthenes vs Cicero compared to this. IMHO this is making things worse.
Discipline takes you places motivation can’t
Motivation is fleeting
Want to be great day in & day out? Be disciplined in your routines & what you need to do to succeed
The days you’re motivated are a bonus
If you want to become a better, skilled athlete work on skill work, with skill coaches.
if you want to become a better athlete and get the most out of your skill work, put the stick/ball/etc.. down and work on athleticism/s&c with a strength coach.
It really can be that simple.
Failure of Prioritization
The failure to prioritize is the greatest driver of busyness.
Two categories:
• Failure to identify the 2-3 things that really matter means we busy ourselves with everything.
• Spending too much time on the urgent draws us away from the important.
Obsessive Optimization
Optimization culture told you that unless you are making the most of every second of every day, you're missing out on growth.
When we constantly seek to optimize, we fill our time with movement—that may be completely devoid of progress.
“My kid is only 12 so I want to wait until they strength train.”
“Only Bodyweight exercises right? I don’t want to stunt their growth.”
Still people/parents who buy into the outdated myths about youth resistance training
Here’s a video you can save & use anytime you need to!
Quote of the night from Nathan MacKinnon on #Avs' 6-0 road record: "We have five guys connected offensively and defensively and you don't got to please anybody. We're here to hopefully make it boring and gross and just play a good two-way game. There's no show to put on ..."
This is a huge reason why we need to change how we approach youth athlete development in hockey. A lot of hip and groin issues begin during adolescence but only present later on in their careers. Skating is stressful on the hips, particularly those that aren’t fully developed
