Ejo Hawe is a Rwandan educational entertainment platform that empowers young people with accurate information and practical life skills

We are conducting a two-day technical workshop (9-10 September ) to support the transition and integration of Peer Educators into Rwanda’s Community Health Worker structure.

The workshop brings together the RRP+ team and technical partners to develop a clear transition plan, review the Peer Educator structure, identify risks and challenges, and ensure continuity of HIV services for people living with HIV.

This step aims to advance sustainable, integrated, and person-centred community health services, while preserving the value of peer-led support.

🤝 RRP+ and World Vision Rwanda Strengthen Partnership to Support Communities

Today, the Rwanda Network of People Living with HIV @rrpplus and World Vision Rwanda @WVRwanda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in improving the health and well-being of children, young people, families, and people living with HIV across Rwanda.

The partnership will focus on strengthening community systems, reducing HIV-related stigma, improving HIV prevention and treatment adherence, and supporting joint work in health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, education, mental health, livelihoods, and community resilience.

The two organizations will build on their complementary strengths World Vision Rwanda’s technical expertise, program integration and systems strengthening, and RRP+’s community networks, advocacy experience and lived experience of people living with HIV.

This partnership is step towards stronger community-led action, better health outcomes, reduced stigma, and a more inclusive HIV response in Rwanda.

Sport brings us together and creates an opportunity to reach young people with life-saving health information.

As highlighted in this video, through the 4th Intercamp Sports and Awareness Tournament, we used sport as a platform to promote HIV prevention, access to health services, mental health,SRH, substance-use prevention and informed decision-making among young people in Mahama Refugee Camp.

Throughout the campaign, we encouraged young people to seek reliable health information, visit health facilities, make informed choices, and use condoms to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

We also distributed more than 100,000 condoms, helping young people access essential HIV and STI prevention tools.

We made this initiative possible through collaboration with @RwandaEmergency , @Refugees , @KireheDistrict , @giz_rwanda , @SCIRwanda ,@ahfrwanda and other partners.

Beyond the game, we used sport to educate, empower and promote healthier choices among young people.

Playing for Prevention | Empowering Girls to Return to School

As we reach the final of the 4th Intercamp Sports and Awareness Tournament, in partnership with @ahfrwanda , we are engaging young girls preparing to return to school.
Through an SRH education session, we discussed menstrual health, protecting their education, making informed choices, avoiding risky situations, and resisting pressure that could affect their health and future, including early pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
We also provided menstrual hygiene materials and other essential items to support the girls as they prepare to return to school

When girls have the right information, the right support and the confidence to make informed choices, they are better equipped to protect their health and stay focused on their education.

Day 4 | Playing for Prevention

When young people come together, connect through sport, and access accurate health information, they are empowered to make informed choices and build a healthier future.
Today, we continued our HIV Awareness Campaign in Mahama Refugee Camp as part of the 4th Intercamp Sports and Awareness Tournament, using sports, peer engagement, and interactive awareness activities to promote HIV prevention, SRHR, healthy choices, and access to trusted health services.

We are still in Mahama, Playing for Prevention creating safe spaces where young people can learn, ask questions, connect with peers, and protect their future through informed decisions.

On Day 3 of our 7-Day HIV Awareness Campaign in Mahama Refugee Camp, RRP+ staff, together with Peer Educators, engaged young people in an open and interactive discussion on different topics, including Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT), at Mahama 2 Health Facility, supported by Save the Children.
The session created a safe space for young people to ask questions and receive clear and trusted information on HIV, SRHR and healthy choices.
Among the questions asked was how a mother living with HIV can have children who are HIV-negative, highlighting the importance of accurate information, treatment and access to appropriate health services.

Through peer-to-peer dialogue, we are helping young people ask questions without fear, challenge misconceptions and make informed decisions about their health.

Yesterday, on Day 2 of our 7-Day HIV Awareness Campaign in Mahama Refugee Camp, we brought together Health Care Providers and Peer Educators to strengthen community-based support for young people.

The discussions brought together representatives from Mahama 2 Medicalized Health Center, supported by Save the Children, and Mahama 1 Health Facility, supported by Alight.

Our discussions focused on:

🔹 Strengthening the Peer Education System in Mahama Refugee Camp

🔹 Addressing challenges faced by adolescents and young people living with HIV, including stigma and poor treatment adherence

🔹 Strengthening the role of Peer Education in supporting young people living with HIV

🔹 Strengthening collaboration between RRP+ and health facilities in Mahama

Youth Ambassadors and Peer Educators are playing a key role in this campaign. By sharing their experiences, providing trusted information and creating safe spaces for dialogue, they help young people feel supported and confident to seek care and make informed health choices.

From 24 August, we have been conducting a 7-day HIV Awareness Campaign in Mahama Refugee Camp, Kirehe District. Today marks Day 2, running alongside the 4th Intercamp Sports and Awareness Tournament.

The campaign uses sports, peer education and interactive discussions to empower young people with accurate information on HIV prevention and testing, SRHR, GBV prevention, gender equality and available health services.

The tournament brings together 725 participants from 46 teams representing refugee camps and urban refugee communities, competing in Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Sitting Volleyball, Karate and Taekwondo.

We have engaged with health facility leaders and camp leadership, while also joining the football match.

Beyond sport, the campaign is creating a platform to promote health, awareness, inclusion, talent development and positive choices among young people.

Youth Ambassadors are also playing a key role by sharing their lived experiences with the audience, creating open and relatable conversations around HIV, SRHR, stigma and healthy choices. Through their stories and peer-to-peer engagement, they are helping other young people learn, ask questions and make informed decisions about their health.

Today, RRP+, in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in Rwanda and in collaboration with HERO - Health Equity Rights Organization, officially launched EJO HAWE, a youth-focused Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) video drama series.

EJO HAWE uses storytelling and entertainment to bring accurate and relevant SRH information closer to adolescents and young people.

The series addresses SRH issues affecting young people, including HIV prevention, family planning, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination, healthy relationships, and access to youth-friendly services.

By combining education and entertainment, EJO HAWE aims to make health conversations easier to understand, increase awareness, and encourage positive behavior and informed choices among young people.

The launch brought together key stakeholders from government institutions, including RBC, MIGEPROF, and other, development and implementing partners, civil society, youth-led organizations, media, local authorities, youth ambassadors, peer educators, and social media influencers to support the wider dissemination and use of the series.
