@woke8yearold "Forever a child" is an exaggeration. Down takes about 20 points off of your natural IQ, so your average person with Down is functional at a low adult level, and there are even people with Down syndrome and normal intelligence. Heart problems are a bigger issue for many.
@SandyofCthulhu@robinhanson They did. They had some 200,000 Ukrainians fighting for them in various units all over Germany. Later in the war, they tried to create a unified Ukrainian army. They did the same in the Baltics. The Germans were very active in recruiting from occupied regions.
@robinhanson This is not the correct way to see Germany in WW2. They were quite straightforwardly trying to re-create the status quo antebellum WW1 where a Germanic empire controlled central Europe as it had for the last 1,000 years. This ambition necessitated war.
This are the kinds of phenomena that demonstrate democracy is primarily a means of providing political legitimacy to the ruling class, not a means of popular rule.
British voters opposed mass immigration from the start. Polling showed 80-90% opposition in the mid-1960s. Yet politicians, corporations, the media, and elite institutions treated public opinion as something to shame or ignore.
But that couldn’t possibly sow any divisions.
Inspired by the public's response to our 2022 Pride flag, we’re expanding our design to represent 40 LGBTQIA+ communities—and making it available for everyone to use and build on: https://t.co/YugwQGp7b6
Libs have such a dysfunctional relationship with masculinity that they have 3 options left for reaching men:
1. Limp, inoffensive gay dweebs who think masculinity is bad (Talarico).
2. Performatively masculine cuck chair girldads who think real masculinity means accepting your abuse (Walz).
3. The last actually-manly guy left, who's only still around because he's repressed his forbidden desires in public while indulging in illicit private compulsions (Platner).
Imagine being a young guy trying to figure out who you are and seeing these as your three viable character selection options.
@aljhlester@ShipleyWrites How does that not apply to the Irish, though? And yet, the UN tells us that the Sami are the only indiginous people in Europe.
I wrote about the Pope and why Christian tech critics often have a more compelling response to the AI crisis than their secular counterparts. Simply, Christian writers aren't afraid of "human nature" talk, and they understand THE question of the AI Age is: what are people for? 🧵
It’s pretty weird Italy never developed single city syndrome.
They’ve been unified for 150 years but we don’t see one breakaway city slowly sucking in all the economic activity and talent like France, the UK, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Austria, and many others.
