Hi, my Paper with @Aoto_Lab is Published! Very excited to share our work in which we identify ventral subiculum (a very cool but understudied region of ventral hippocampus that regulates reward and stress) as a sexually... https://t.co/xwVJjxZ3wh (1/4)
@CaitlinPBailey For my current F32, I was emailed beginning of June 2023 that it has been selected for funding, but Im told I won’t get the NOA until the end of the month.
My F31 Timeline:
Started grad school: Aug 2016
1st: Dec 2018 (29th%)
Resub: Aug 2019 (23rd%)
3rd: April 2020 (16th%)
NOA: Aug 2021
…
It takes a lot of time to write and prepare these grants. Good training, but be prepared to wait and to learn just how scarce F31 funding is.
My F31 timeline:
1st submission: April 2020
Resubmission: Dec 2020
NOA: August 2021
Is there a way to shorten the timeline for certain career stages? It doesn't make much sense to me that a post-candidacy award process can take 1.5 years when post-candidacy only lasts ~3-4 yrs
@CaitlinPBailey For my F31, it was funded at the end of the fiscal cycle bc they had leftover money, so it was a long wait from getting my score until NOA, but it was no wait from receiving my PO’s email notifying of award, until NOA.
@NeuroscienceNew This is correlation not causation and should be discussed with that terminology…. This study does not show that “BMI impacts” but that BMI is ‘associated’ with certain cognitive patterns

Our paper is out! Ventral subiculum output to NAc exhibits a D2R bias and has distinct synaptic properties from vCA1 output. Cocaine withdrawal potentiates vSUB-D2R synapses.
Emma Boxer's (@EmmaEBoxer) and JungMin Kim's (@jungminKimwipes) study investigating the unique synapse-specific properties of ventral subiculum output to D1R and D2R MSNs in dorsal NAc medial shell is out now in @SfNJournals! https://t.co/o2UpKXz7VD
Emma Boxer's (@EmmaEBoxer) review article is now out in @FrontNeurosci! She covers our current understanding about the functional roles neurexins and their ligands have at inhibitory synapses.
We are excited to share our new work @Nature, led by @Lenka_Dohnal, uncovering a gut-brain pathway that regulates the motivation for #exercise. (1/7)

@jessie_muir@BagotLab@Eiyer @RCBagot ...and thus was a bit surprised to not see sex diff in the vSUB-NAc output circuit, but we reasoned that there could still be distinct utilization of the circuit during behavior- so I am very glad to see your preprint confirming this, at least for the vHIPP-NAc circuit!
@jessie_muir@BagotLab@Eiyer @RCBagot The preprint should be published v soon, I will send it to you. I recently discovered sex diff in vSUB local circuit..
Proactive vs Reactive Aggression are driven by unique circuits.
Mounting for Sex/Mating vs Mounting for Dominance are separable too.
