- Labour's first two Budgets increased taxes on British workers by £36 billion and £26 billion respectively, pushing the tax burden to an historic high of 38.3% of GDP

- The OBR forecasts 240,000 more people will be unemployed in 2026 than it previously projected - it said this is largely attributable to Labour's employment policies

- The UK unemployment rate was 4.9% as of early 2026, up from 4.6% a year earlier, an increase of 124,000

- Total UK welfare spending this year is estimated at £333.7 billion - up from £315 billion

- The UK is spending £301 million per day just to service its debt interest on Labour borrowing

- Labour promised 1.5 million new homes this parliament. Between 9 July 2024 and 15 March 2026, it had build just 342,100, way off target

- More than 1 million young people aged 16-24 were not in education, employment or training in the first quarter of this year - up 89,000

- The NHS waiting list stands at 7.22 million cases

- When Labour took office in July 2024, just 58.8% of patients were treated within 18 weeks. The target is 92%. By March 2026 it had only reached 65.3%

- Around 100,000 patients are waiting over a year for NHS treatment

- Over the past year, approximately 1.56 million people waited more than 4 hours in A&E - a huge breach of the target

- The outstanding caseload in the Crown Court stands at around 80,200 - the highest level recorded since 2016 and more than double the pre-Covid caseload

- A quarter of all Crown Court cases have been open for more than a year

- There are currently 14,749 sexual offences cases waiting to go to the Crown Court - a 75% increase

- There were approximately 530,640 shoplifting offences recorded in England and Wales over the past year - the highest in the entire time series on record

- There were 41,000 small boat arrivals in 2025

- Of all people who have arrived by small boat since 2018, only around 7,500 (4%) had been returned from the UK by the end of 2025

- Last year the Home Office spent £4 billion on asylum support. This includes £2.1 billion on hotel accommodation alone - around £6 million per day

#Grasmere folks are furious over plans to turn Goody Blakes restaurant on Stock Lane into a Turkish takeaway & complained like hell to the Lakes Parish Council who have refused an application.

The restaurant's owner, Shwan Khder, had sought approval to install a 'discreet' new chimney on the rear wall in addition to changes to facilitate a grill.  

The local council noted in response that the changes would 'introduce a level of activity that is out of keeping with the surrounding residential & sensitive village context & undermine the established character/function of the village'.

The gaoler drew no wage, he lived on fees from his prisoners, and if you could not pay, the door stayed shut. Innocent or not.

In 1773 John Howard was made High Sheriff of Bedfordshire. Most sheriffs sent a deputy to the county gaol. Howard walked in himself. ⚖️

He asked the magistrates to pay the gaoler a wage instead.

They asked him to name one county in England that did. So he rode out to find one.

Gaol after gaol, county after county, there was none. Just the same fee at every door, cells cut below ground and a fever in the straw that killed more prisoners than the gallows.

In 1774 Parliament called him to the bar of the Commons, thanked him for his humanity and zeal and changed the law of England. Fees struck down. Cleared men freed in open court.

Howard printed the new law himself and sent it to every gaol in England. 📜

Then he kept going. Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Russia. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇮🇪🇫🇷🇩🇪🇷🇺

He weighed the prison bread and measured the cells in hundreds of prisons, over 42,000 miles by his own count, and set it all down in The State of the Prisons in 1777.

In 1779 Parliament passed the Penitentiary Act with his evidence before it.

At 63, at Kherson on the Black Sea, he sat at a fever patient's bedside, and the gaol fever he had followed through the prisons of Europe took him too.

He asked for a quiet grave, a sundial and to be forgotten. 🔥

Britain refused.

St Paul's had never once held a statue. The first ever raised was his. The reformers who came after him took his name and carry it still.

🚨 SEX ATTACK IN BRADFORD CITY CENTRE
POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT

West Yorkshire Police are hunting a man linked to a sickening sexual assault in Bradford city centre.
Officers were called to Channing Way in the early hours of April 4 after reports of the attack.

Detectives have now released CCTV footage of a man they are "keen to identify" as part of their ongoing investigation.

This is yet another brutal reminder of the safety crisis gripping our streets.

Women and girls cannot walk Bradford's city centre without fear, even as the rest of the country sleeps.

Police are urging anyone who knows the man in the images or has information about the incident to come forward immediately.
