Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Report Exposes Grave Violations:
The findings reveal a distressing pattern of violence, extrajudicial killings and ethnic profiling, underlining the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the dire situation in Ethiopia.
The major findings of the report include:
1. Widespread Human Rights Violations: The EHRC has received an influx of complaints detailing rampant human rights abuses both before and after the declaration of a state of emergency. These complaints span across multiple regions, including Addis Ababa and other parts of the country.
2. Massacres and Heavy Artillery Use: The EHRC confirmed that a series of massacres took place across cities and towns in the Amhara region. These massacres involved the use of heavy artillery by regime forces, leading to the loss of civilian lives, injuries, and significant property damage.
3. Lethal Suppression of Protests: Tragic instances have emerged where government forces brutally killed protestors, including civilians, who were attempting to block roads. This use of excessive force against protestors has raised serious concerns about the protection of citizens' right to peaceful assembly.
4. Weaponization of Basic Services: The regime has weaponized access to fundamental services such as electricity, water, banking, healthcare, education, telephone, and internet services. Denying access to these services has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and civilian suffering.
5. Disruption of Humanitarian Assistance: The regime's actions have led to the interruption of humanitarian aid to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Amhara region. This deliberate obstruction of aid to vulnerable populations adds to the suffering of the local population.
6. Civilian Casualties in Urban Areas: A particularly harrowing incident occurred in Debre Birhan city, where densely populated areas were heavily shelled . The EHRC reported civilian casualties, including those in hospitals, churches, schools, and residential neighborhoods, due to regime-fired heavy artillery.
7. Neglected IDP Camps: The regime's neglect of IDP camps, such as the China IDPs site near Kebele 8, has left thousands of displaced individuals without essential support and assistance.
8. Reports of Shelling: EHRC received credible reports of shelling and strikes from areas including Debre Birhan, Finote Selam, and Burie. These actions resulted in civilian casualties and damage to residential and public spaces, indicating a disregard for civilian lives and property.
9. Street Executions and Targeted Violence: In Bahir Dar, reports indicate that civilians were killed on the streets or outside their homes. Additionally, youths were singled out for searches, beatings, and even killings by regime forces.
10. Casualties and Extra-Judicial Killings: In Gondar and Shewa Robit, the security forces of the regime have been linked to extra-judicial killings and civilian casualties, raising serious concerns about adherence to international human rights.
11. Ethnic Profiling and Detentions: The report highlights the alarming widespread arrest of individuals of ethnic Amhara origin in Addis Ababa. These civilians have been subjected to ethnic profiling and placed in concentration camps by the regime.
12. Detention of Asylum Seekers: The EHRC received multiple reports indicating the detention of irregular migrants from Eritrea, some of whom were seeking asylum in Ethiopia. This practice is in violation of international law, and the EHRC has been denied access to monitor the conditions of detention since the declaration of the State of Emergency.

Abiy Ahmed’s regime arrested Mr. Christian Tadele, who is a member of the House of People’s Representatives. As a member of the parliament, Mr Chrstian has immunity but the regime doesn’t care to lift the immunity before his arrest #WarOnAmhara#AmharaUnderAttack#AmharaGenocide
