Mortality from myocardial infarction differs across German regions to the disadvantage of rural areas. A new study by @MaEbeling , @M_Muehlichen, Talbäck, Rau, Goedel and @demomapper shows that this urban-rural gradient is driven by disease incidence and not case fatality.
The findings highlight that improving disease prevention at the patient level carries larger opportunities for reducing regional mortality inequalities in myocardial infarction in Germany.
