Just completed my latest drawing commemorating a friend and her partner's first completion of the Vault of Glass raid together. Thanks for taking a look! (Copic markers on 14"x17" Bristol paper) #Destiny2Art#DestinyArt@DestinyTheGame @DestinyComArt
@grizz814@StreetsblogNYC Redesigning Bedford Ave a year ago, like the DOT was supposed to. That's the whole point. There are cities where these tragedies don't happen nearly as often as they do here, because those cities actually prioritize safety over speed.
@KaranoirN @BuckarooBonnzai @Human101Nature Where did you see "minor injuries" in that article? The article said the victim "significantly injured his arm and leg".
@MerriweatherB10@ShabazzStuart So you're in agreement that we need more investment in safer infrastructure to keep motorized vehicles in the street, separated from bicyclists and pedestrians?
@metro_sn@ShabazzStuart I think we're on the same page. The problem with your original tweet is that you're making it sound like it's the cyclist's fault for not being vigilant enough, even though they were hit by two cars (the first of which was complete negligence).
@MerriweatherB10@ShabazzStuart Sounds like a pretty big flaw. This is why we need more protected bike lanes, and not paint on the ground next to doors.
And is it asking too much for motorists to fucking turn their heads to look for incoming vehicles?
@MarcusSinclair2@ShabazzStuart Do you think a car will always have its lights on before someone exits?
No one's perfect, cyclists and motorists included, which is why we need more protected lanes, which eliminate this problem.
@metro_sn@ShabazzStuart I do the same, giving parked cars enough space to avoid being doored. But what this often means is that I'm taking the lane, angering drivers behind me, who will then approach dangerously close to pass me unsafely. What's your solution?
@JoeInternaut@ShabazzStuart Dooring usually happens when cars are parked, so a cyclist cannot be in the same lane. The only way to prevent dooring is to stay away from parked cars, which means taking the travel lane. This is also dangerous, as drivers become impatient and will attempt to pass you unsafely.
@metro_sn@ShabazzStuart You mean the awareness on the part of motorists and passengers, who should be checking their mirrors before swinging doors open? Agreed, if so.
However, if you're blaming cyclists for not being psychic and anticipating an opening door, kindly stfu.
@chrispatricknyc @NYCBikeLanes Oh, so you're okay with having a significantly higher chance of being killed in an automobile because of another driver's negligence, inattention, or carelessness, as long as it's not intentional? I'm sure that makes it all better.
@chrispatricknyc @NYCBikeLanes While millions of ppl use the subway stab-free each day, tens of thousands NYers are severely injured and hundreds more killed in motor vehicle crashes each year in NYC.
You have any stats showing that one is more likely to be stabbed in the subway than injured in a car crash?
@bleeker185@NYCBikeLanes Hmm, that's weird. Millions of people use these tunnels stab-free every day.
But tens of thousands of NYers are severely injured and hundreds killed in motor vehicle crashes each year in NYC.
Oh, I see what the problem is; you may wanna try using facts next time.
@wwallywarren @kissmechrist @MichaelGrabow@NYCBikeLanes Keep moving those goalposts, buddy.
"But what about the rain??"
-Jackets
"Okay, but what about my clients' cleanliness?"
-Deodorant
"But what about emergency vehicles??"
-Hey, genius, what kind of traffic do you think blocks emergency vehicles?
@ImpunityCity@KathyParkPrice@BrooklynChamber@mcguinness_safe Okay, and more people walk and take mass transit than drive. What's your point? Please show me a specific case where the installation of protected lanes on a given corridor in this city has resulted in reduced revenue for the businesses along that corridor. (1/2)
@ImpunityCity@KathyParkPrice@BrooklynChamber@mcguinness_safe This is exactly the dancing around that I was referring to. What does this have anything to do with what I said about increasing businesses' revenue through the installation of new protected bike lanes?
