Residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, keep a go-bag ready at all times! They are planning a wealth tax for MA.
—-
MassBudget proposes a “wealth tax” on high net worth individuals here in the Commonwealth. This includes taxing “unrealized gains” in the value of their assets, such as the intangible, potential value of business holdings, intellectual property, or other assets; or a founder’s shares of a company they started that does not necessarily correlate with cash on hand. MassBudget also proposes annually taxing “large pools of wealth” whether or not the value has increased and generated any income in a given year.
It’s very common for liberals on the Internet to say stuff like this, but it’s not what the data actually show.
* Republicans are more likely to be married and less likely to be divorced or never-married.
* Liberals are much more likely to be estranged from their family because of politics.
* Republicans are almost certainly more likely to have a relationship with their neighbors.
* Republicans have more sex (likely because they’re much more likely to be married and married people have more sex) and also report higher satisfaction with their sex lives.
My dear American friends, in my last post I gave you a snapshot of where France stands today. Now let me show you how we got here. I want you to see the whole movie before you buy the ticket.
After the war, France was a machine. We called it the Trente Glorieuses, thirty glorious years. We built Concorde, the most beautiful aircraft ever made. We built a fleet of nuclear reactors in about fifteen years and gave ourselves some of the cleanest, cheapest electricity in the world. We built Ariane and put Europe in space. We built the TGV, the fastest train on earth. We invented the Minitel, an online network in millions of homes before most of you had heard of the internet. We were not a museum. We were builders.
Then came 1981. François Mitterrand. Think of him as our Bernie Sanders, except he actually won. At his side, in the office next to his at the Élysée, sat a 37-year-old prodigy named Jacques Attali, his special adviser for the next ten years. The brightest minds of the left, convinced they could run an economy from a ministry.
Here's what they did. They governed with Communist ministers. In 1982 they nationalized dozens of banks and the biggest industrial groups in the country: Paribas, Suez, Saint-Gobain, Thomson, Pechiney, Rhône-Poulenc. They lowered the retirement age to 60. They cut the work week to 39 hours and added a fifth week of paid vacation. They created a wealth tax. They hired massively into the public sector.
Reality hit in less than two years. Capital fled, inflation ran wild, and the franc was devalued three times. In March 1983 Mitterrand had to slam on the brakes and impose austerity just to stay in the European monetary system.
But here's the trick: the brakes never reversed anything. They just slowed the ratchet. The so-called right came back with Jacques Chirac, and nothing was undone. Under Chirac's presidency, France passed the 35-hour work week. Left or right, every government added one more program, one more rule, one more tax, and nobody ever took one away.
At the same time, the political class did something even more destructive than bad economics. It turned the youth into a political instrument. Instead of teaching young people, including millions of children of immigrants, to love the country they lived in, it taught them a story of guilt and grievance: France as the oppressor, France as the thing to resent. You cannot integrate people into a country you've taught them to despise. We are living with the consequences of that narrative today, in our schools, our suburbs, our streets.
Then forty years of slow decline, all the way to Macron. And the story has a perfect ending. In 2007, Jacques Attali chaired a commission on how to unleash French growth. Its deputy rapporteur was a young civil servant named Emmanuel Macron. The commission proposed more than 300 reforms to free the economy. Almost none were ever implemented. Even the men who built the system knew it wasn't working, and even they couldn't undo it.
No balanced budget since 1974. Public spending around 57% of GDP. Debt above 3,300 billion euros. Growth stuck under 1%.
Now the number that should keep you up at night. In 1995, GDP per person in France was about $27,000. In America, about $29,000. We were neck and neck. Today France is around $49,000. America is around $90,000. You are now nearly twice as rich per person as we are.
What changed? Not our talent. Not our engineers. Not our schools of mathematics. The only thing that changed is that we went all in on socialism. The 35 hours, the endless regulation, the taxes that chase out anyone who builds, the belief that the state should do everything and the individual should ask permission for everything.
There's a line people love to attribute to Einstein: insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. We tried. For forty years, we tried. Every government promised that one more program, one more tax, one more regulation would finally fix things. You just saw where it got us.
So if you choose the Democratic Party, which is literally turning socialist in front of your eyes, you will deserve what comes next.
Let me tell you exactly what will happen if you go down that road. Nobody will vote for decline. Every single measure will sound generous, compassionate, reasonable. Your builders will slowly leave or stop building. Your state will grow every year and never shrink. Your debt will compound. And in thirty years, your kids will look at a chart like the one I just described and wonder when it all went wrong.
You still have something we lost. You have Elon Musk sending rockets to orbit and landing them on their tail. You have Palmer Luckey building the defense industry of the future. You have Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang, and thousands of founders nobody has heard of yet, building in garages right now.
Trust your entrepreneurs. Don't trust your politicians.
I come from your future. Don't make it yours.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) gives a speech on the House floor in a full burqa to demonstrate the repressive conditions women and girls face under Sharia Law in places like Afghanistan.
Only in the first world can you wear $200 shoes, drink an $8 coffee, own a $1,000 phone, and post on a billionaire's social media network about how capitalism has failed you.
Did you know El Salvador’s homicide rate will drop below France’s in 2026? It was about 100x higher in 2015. It’s really simple, lock up criminals instead of relativizing their acts, and the problem gets solved. It’s not rocket science, why does the left do the opposite and is then surprised that more people vote far-right parties because they don’t feel safe anymore?
Facts and data couldn’t be clearer, criminals must go to jail or be deported and jailed in their home countries. How much more evidence do the lefts need to make European cities safe again? Don’t blame the far-right, or their voters, it’s all the result of your naive and failed left ideology.
Serious question, can you name a single left policy that works, or doesn’t achieve the opposite of what is intended? I have been thinking about that, and can not find even one. Nothing there, zero. Let me call out few absurd left policies first, let’s see if you know at least one that actually makes sense:
1. Rent controls: reduce supply of apartments available for rent.
2. Minimum wage: make some businesses uneconomical and reduce the number of jobs.
3. „Tax the rich“: make entrepreneurs invest less or emigrate, reduce tax revenues and destroy jobs.
4. Immigration to address demographic crisis: unskilled male immigrants compete with young people for entry-level jobs and make housing less affordable, driving family formation down.
5. Net Zero: moves production to Asia, where the same products generate much more emissions to manufacture and ship, really bad for the climate.
I really struggle to find even one reasonable left policy. Why do people vote for this utter nonsense?

Reports that an armed civilian stopped a school shooter today brought back memories of Christmas Eve 1990.
I know what it’s like to have your life saved by an armed civilian. His name was Thomas Hann.
I was helping out at my brother’s furniture store on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. Two employees were there, along with a young couple shopping with their infant in a stroller.
Two men entered the store, looked around, and left. Something about them bothered me. I told an employee named Ernie that I thought they were suspicious.
About 30 minutes later, they returned. This time, they had guns.
One robber put a gun to my temple. When I explained that we didn’t keep much cash because customers generally paid by check or credit card, he became agitated and shoved the gun into my mouth.
At the time, I was cooperating with federal authorities in the Crazy Eddie fraud investigation. I didn’t know whether this was a random robbery or whether someone had come to kill me.
Then things got worse.
The robbers demanded the keys to the front door and announced they were moving everyone into the basement.
Think about that. Two armed men preparing to take five people, including an infant, into a basement. I had no idea whether any of us would come back upstairs alive.
Then Thomas Hann walked through the door.
Hann was a member of our Jewish community who happened to be stopping by to visit Ernie on his way to a shooting range. He was carrying a gun.
One of the robbers spotted him. Gunfire erupted.
Hann shot one robber dead. The second robber fired at Hann, putting bullets through his sports jacket without hitting him. Hann returned fire, striking the second robber in the neck and leg.
It was over in seconds.
Everyone was in shock. I ran to a nearby Jewish bookstore to get help. Hatzolah arrived and saved the wounded robber’s life.
The FBI investigated the incident, including whether it was connected to my cooperation in the Crazy Eddie case. One robber had known my first name. I never learned whether that was a coincidence.
I later testified before a grand jury investigating Hann’s actions. The grand jury declined to indict him.
Thomas Hann wasn’t a police officer. He wasn’t there looking for trouble. He was an ordinary civilian who happened to be armed and walked into a deadly situation.
I don’t know what those robbers intended to do once they got us into the basement. Nobody does.
But I know what Hann did.
He stopped them.
And I’m alive today because he did.
I have never forgotten Thomas Hann. I never will.
