The hate for GTA VI is justified considering that:
>It's trying to normalize $80/$100 games
>No proper physical release
>Cost over $1 billion to make
>Rockstar frequently busted any attempts at unionization
The game will succeed, but gaming as a whole will suffer for it
Going back to refuting bad faith arguments against physical media, and false narratives passed on by Sony and the industry, with new info and statements🚀
🗣️“You just want physical games for nostalgia”
✅Physical games represent:
A) Ownership
B) Competitive pricing
C) Second hand market & trading
D) No reliance on networks & internet
E) Not tied to a user account
F) Playable worldwide without region lock
G) Collectible value
🗣️“85% of players buy digital”
✅15% or even 5% in this industry is still millions of people bringing in hundreds of millions of not billions o revenue.
✅Statistics have also shown us that in the UK, France, Japan and Australia, physical game sales go higher than %40 and %50 for games like Resident Evil and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
✅PlayStation’s Wolverine reportedly sold 35% physical in the US & 51% physical in Europe
🗣️“Nobody buys physical games”
✅Several physical games go out of stock for weeks, or ship with a disc that requires downloading more.
✅Physical games don’t lack interest, they lack genuine support.
✅The industry appears to calculate DLC, microtransactions, digital only games and free to play as “digital purchases” which heavily inflates the number of digital games against physical media
🗣️“Netflix and Spotify ended movie and music Blu-Rays and CDs”
✅Movies are still being sold on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD
✅Music still comes to CDs, vinyl and even cassette tapes that actually work
✅Artists use variants of the same vinyl and/or CD to boost sales for how much in demand they
✅PlayStation and Rockstar continue to release their game soundtracks on vinyl multiple vinyl variants, and GTA6 soundtrack is coming to vinyl with liquid inside and 8 other variants along with CDs
✅Despite music being far smaller as files and much more accessible and less demanding than video games which can go over 100GB, digital and streaming did not end physical media
🗣️“It’s expensive to make games on disc”
✅Games will be more expensive if an all digital future is implemented.
✅You will pay the same price for a glorified rental that can be taken any time due to licensing agreements or account loss/suspension.
✅With the absence of competition, regional and dynamic pricing, games can be more expensive than ever
✅Second hand market gives players an option to get games cheaper and keeps the market/pricing in check
🗣️“This is fear-mongering! Sony would never take away your digital games. It never happened to me”
✅It happens to so many people, like the 500 movies that Sony removed from users libraries and many games that come and go regardless of how much you paid for them
✅Buying only a license without a copyright physical component that guarantees ownership could mean you lose the game if your account was hack or suspended, licenses expired or any issues happened with the network
🗣️“Opposing physical media is not a thing. It’s only a niche crying about them online”
✅The outrage extended not only to gaming media but to mainstream media in general, with many celebrities and corporations expressing disdain and ridicule towards Sony
✅Various industry legends including Hideo Kojima, Shawn Layden, Dan Houser, SEGA, Yoko Taro and many others expressed disagreement with the decision citing that physical media is important for ownership, collectible value among other things
✅Digital Foundry’s John Linneman stated that various studios and publishers told him there’s resentment within the industry towards Sony
✅Sony is reportedly surveying creators about how they feel about physical media
✅NYU business professor and gaming analyst Joost van Dreunen gave a statement:
“People have a need to collect.
That’s where physical sales are still incredibly relevant for the consumer market. The industry is ready to move on, but not so fast. This is increasingly a big part of it.”
✅They hold sentimental value to players and collectors, and that is a big market
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
@VGC_News And even this doesn’t tell the entire story. Before their string of recent decisions I would’ve bought the game and bought it physically, but I skipped it entirely because Sony can go fuck themselves. I’m sure there are plenty of others out there that are the same.
PlayStation and Insomniac Games WOLVERINE sold 35% of its launch sales on physical disc🚀
In Europe, it sold 51% physical!

See that Sony? We’re loud and there’s millions of us, and we will never stop!🫡
Save physical media! Buy games on disc!
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
NYU business professor and gaming analyst Joost van Dreunen made some pro-physical game statement: “People have a need to collect.
That’s where physical sales are still incredibly relevant for the consumer market. The industry is ready to move on, but not so fast. This is increasingly a big part of it.”
Thank you to everyone who’s speaking in support of physical media and actively buying games🥹

#PS5
Sony is getting absolutely hammered over its stance on game ownership.
>First Sony announced that are killing the disc and going all digital
>Then They are arguing in court that players don’t own the games they buy, only have a license to access them.
>Recently modders have managed to jailbreak a recent version of the PlayStation 5.
Now fans are telling Sony they no longer own their own hardware, they wanted a full digital console so people are doing that exactly that
Fuck you @PlayStation for throwing away your entire legacy and years of trust with your fans and customers in a single fucking month. Your greed has no limits and this shit will catch up with you.
Fuck Hermen Hulst, fuck Hiroki Totoki, and fuck everyone else running this greedy company today.
And before anyone calls me an Xbox fanboy I’ve been a PlayStation fan since day one.
You’re all greedy sons of bitches.

🚨 A New Reality for Physical Games🚨
There’s a lot changing behind the scenes in the video game industry right now — things customers don’t always see.
We don’t want to create FOMO or tell anyone they need to rush out and buy everything. But we do want to give you a heads-up about the reality of physical games today.
If there’s a new game you know you want physically, we highly recommend preordering it.
Print runs for many titles are becoming smaller, and we’re seeing more and more games sell out at launch. Unfortunately, getting additional copies afterward isn’t always as simple as placing another order.
And here’s the part that’s becoming increasingly important:
A preorder does not always guarantee a copy anymore.
Allocations can be cut, production quantities can change, and sometimes there simply aren’t enough copies manufactured to meet demand.
Restocks are also becoming more difficult and, in some cases, more expensive. Smaller reprint quantities, higher manufacturing costs and other industry changes can mean that a game that originally retailed for $X may come back at a higher cost — or may not come back at all.
This is a very different physical game market than the one we’ve been used to.
We’ll continue doing everything we can to track down games, secure additional stock, pursue reprints and keep physical games available for as long as we possibly can.
We just want our customers to be aware of the changing landscape.
If you really want a game physically, preordering is becoming more important than ever. 💿
It’s a new world for physical games. We’re adapting — and we’ll keep fighting to keep them on shelves.
From this day till 2028...
it's my only response to SONY!
✔️Fuck your PSN+
✔️Fuck your $100 games
✔️Fuck your all-digital future
✔️Fuck your 40 teraflop graphics
NO DISC💿 = NO BUY
No. It really doesn’t matter what they release on the PS6 I’m not buying a $1000 console to rent $80 games.
As it stands Sony is currently planning to exit the video game market on Jan 1st 2028 as far as I’m concerned.
Ex-PlayStation boss Shawn Layden chimed in on Sony’s plan to end physical media stating “I don't agree with that decision”🚀
While Layden understands the convenience of digital games, he insists that even if 80% of people download games and 20% buy them physically, the 20% is “super important”
He added that these are the most “faithful of the faithful” players, who even buy multiple copies of a game to add to their collections🫡

Huge respect to Shawn Layden for having a full understanding of gamers and the importance of physical media, and that it’s not about whether digital or physical has the bigger percentage, but rather honoring the options and wishes of the most loyal, in addition to the many other benefits of physical media.
I would do anything to have gave back as a CEO of PlayStation alongside Shuhei Yoshida, both of whom have demonstrated their passion for gaming and great understanding of gaming culture, and both of whom made Sony flourish under their influence and wisdom💿
KEEP THE PRESSURE ON SONY!
In a recent Kotaku interview NIS CEO Saruhashi says that Sony "is hearing a lot of feedback from players" and that things might not be as set in stone as parts of the industry want you to believe regarding the future of physical media.
RUMOR: Sony is said to have sent out a survey to developers asking them about how they feel regarding ending physical media, suggesting they are considering backtracking on the decision🚀
“There is a survey Sony sent out to developers that is, what I was told by my contacts, a bigger survey than they’ve sent almost ever before.
There was a question in it trying to ask in a not-direct way: Is there an issue with not selling games physically, asking developers for feedback on killing discs.
Wolverine is still selling plenty of physical copies and Sony is starting to ask devs if they are worried about killing physical, suggesting that if they got a bunch of feedback, maybe they would consider some sort of mea culpa.”
WE NEED TO KEEP THE PRESSURE!
BE LOUD 💪🏼 BE PERSISTENT
All of us together, PlayStation, Xbox’s, Nintendo, PC, Retro gamers!❤️💚💙🖤🤍
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY

It’s obvious why PlayStation wanted to cancel PHYSINT.
Kojima loves physical media. He would never release a game without a disc, and he would never agree to a digital-only launch. PlayStation is ending physical media for new games, and PHYSINT is still early in development. At best it was heading for a 2029 PS6 release, maybe later.
So when Kojima told them he wanted physical discs, Sony realized the partnership was a problem. If they made an exception for one Kojima game, there would be huge backlash, and people would demand discs for every game again. Instead of keeping physical media and PHYSINT as a PlayStation exclusive, they chose to drop PHYSINT and stick with the all-digital plan.
That’s how greedy Sony’s leadership has become. It’s sad, but it makes sense.
