Die russische Luftwaffe wünscht allen Einwohnern von Kyiv und dem US-Verhandler Keith Kellogg einen schönen Abend und eine gute Nacht. #StandWithUkraine
Last week, civilians welcomed #Sudan 's army as liberators when it retook the strategic city, Wad Madani.
But then, the army began summarily killing people it perceives to be RSF sympathisers based on their ethnicity.
My long read for @AJEnglish

The dreadful images coming from Al Gezira in #Sudan are alarming: RSF reportedly perpetrated more mass killings & rapes.
Massacres against civilians must stop & perpetrators must be held accountable. The EU will continue to act so that justice can be served.

Hunger in 500 days of war in #Sudan
⭕️About 25.6 million people face acute hunger.
⭕️Famine confirmed in Zamzam IDP camp, North Darfur.
⭕️755K in catastrophic levels.
BREAKING🚨
Our teams only have enough therapeutic food to treat malnourished children in Zamzam camp, Sudan, for another 2 weeks.
As a result, today, we have sadly had to cap the number of children who can receive this treatment, because the RSF have blocked our supply trucks.
Civilians continue to pay the heavy price of the ongoing fighting in Sudan.
Each day the war continues, they’re robbed of the lives they’re entitled to and the future they deserve.
Enough.
This morning, the Security Council will hold an open briefing on the situation in Sudan. Assistant Secretary-General @pobee_martha will brief.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of our dedicated aid workers. Musa Adam Suliman tragically died today from complications of a bullet wound he sustained on the first of June.
This horrific violence and suffering in North Darfur and across Sudan must stop.
I was asked by @TheEconomist to pick books that help readers understand Europe.
I picked seven memoirs:
Stefan Zweig (of course), Svetlana Alexievich, Karl Ove Knausgaard, Norman Lewis (Naples '44), Czeslaw Milosz, Jean Monnet, Primo Levi.
Who'd I miss?

Google Earth has updated its satellite imagery of many parts of Sudan. Looking over West Darfur city of El Geneina, I am shocked at the level of destruction. In some parts, whole areas have been destroyed and cleared. Location: 13.4469, 22.4151 (dates: April 2023 & March 2024)
1 year of fighting.
Countless tragedies.
+8.6 million people displaced.
Unimaginable human suffering.
The war in Sudan is still going on.
The world must not look away.

1 year of war in Sudan.
1 year of shattered lives.
1 year of fleeing to safety.
1 year of hoping for peace and still counting.
UNHCR's @OmerElnaiem shares what's happening in his home country Sudan after one year of brutal war and asks the world to #KeepEyesOnSudan.
One year into the conflict in #Sudan, silencing the guns is vital to stop the destruction inflicted on the population and the country.
The Sudanese deserve the freedom, peace and justice they have been aspiring to since 2019.

@UNHumanRights published its report on the dire human rights situation in #Sudan, with wide-spread sexual violence, ethnic targeting & recruitment of children. It underlines the urgent need to silence the guns - now!

A new @UNHumanRights report details horrific violations of human rights in #Sudan, incl. deprivation of the right to health. A large majority of health facilities are non-functional due to the conflict & attacks on health. People are dying due to a lack of medication and treatment. Sexual violence survivors are deprived of needed care.
There’s no health without peace. There’s no peace without health.
