The biggest news isn't that Trump is appointing someone without a national security background to a position that, by law, requires "extensive" experience. It's that Pulte earned Trump's trust by using **mortgage** records to pursue perceived political enemies. Now this top henchman will have access to some of our most sensitive intelligence and exquisite capabilities. That's why this is so noteworthy -- and concerning.

In today's #MustRead, @seth_binder & @KristinaBiyad argue that decades of U.S. military aid to Egypt have failed to advance American interests, enabled authoritarian abuses, and should be phased out in favor of a more conditional and accountable partnership. ⬇️

$100 billion. That’s our estimate of the cost of the Iran War to American households. That’s nearly $750 per household. This includes the additional U.S. military costs and the higher energy and other prices resulting from the war. This is a big economic blow, but deficit-financed tax cuts have cushioned it. Until now. As of May 16th, the bigger tax refunds Americans have received this year no longer cover the higher costs of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel caused by the war. The financial pressure is thus mounting quickly, particularly on already hard-pressed middle and lower-income households. With the saving rate about as low as it ever goes, unless the war ends soon and energy prices come down, they will have little choice but to rein in their spending, weighing further on the already sagging economy.

The illegal war that Trump and Netanyahu started against Iran has been one disaster after the next. When you're digging yourself into a hole, the best way out is to stop digging.
Poison pill, after apocalyptic freak out from the right re a potential JCPOA 2.0. Trump panicked and came up with this stupidity to avoid making a decision he ultimately will make, because he desperately does not want return to war. So now a hot peace continues…
Foreign assistance helps keep Americans safe and healthy. Case in point: Donald Trump dismantled USAID and pulled the U.S. out of the WHO – and both organizations could have helped mount a larger and faster response to contain this Ebola outbreak.
