The Ethiopian gov’t, by breaching the Pretoria peace agreement, has asked the over 17,000 ethnic Tigrayan members of the ENDF - who ethnically profiled & remain detained for over two years – to sign a guilty plea in exchange for their release.
“If you want to be released, you have to formally admit that you betrayed ENDF & the Ethiopian Government by allying with TPLF” states the ultimatum set by the Ethiopian gov’t and presented to the prisoners.
The gov’t authorities further warned the prisoners that if they reject the ”offer” that “they would be left to rot in prison for years”. However, the detainees in protest, collectively rejected the injunction & refused to sign the document. @SecBlinken@SenatorMenendez@JosepBorrellF https://t.co/3utzhd7Baj
I am deeply disturbed by reports of atrocities committed by Eritrean troops in Tigray. The international community must demand justice and hold those responsible for these brutal killings accountable. https://t.co/ewkuXYLNAZ
Horrifying news of massacres in Tigray as leaders worked to secure a peace deal last fall. Accountability for these & all atrocities is critical to enduring peace. @AbiyAhmedAli must allow @UN_HRC’s International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia unfettered access.
"Witnesses have told The Globe and Mail that Eritrean troops remain an aggressive presence in Tigray region in northern Ethiopia, attacking and looting civilians in defiance of a November peace agreement that requires all foreign forces to withdraw." https://t.co/NnKNPlkV05
Alert: Since Jan 16th, Axum city’s residents have been witnessing Ethiopian & Eritrean soldiers digging up the Axum massacre corpses in the compound of Axum Airport & transporting them to an unknown location 1/2 @SecBlinken@SenatorMenendez@JosepBorrellF@UNHumanRights@amnesty
Too early to make judgement on Tigray peace.
Guns silent, mostly, but misery, helplessness of Tigrayans continues in multiple ways.
On Mon-Tue Addis cut power, telecom to Tigray for 12 hrs. No explanation. Same day TDF disarmed.
Satellite data shows no Eritrean pullout
Wonderful news.
I pay tribute to the humanity and courage shown by Derartu Tulu to protect her Tigrayan athletes when others were being detained and lynched.
In monitoring the ceasefire for Tigray, the international community should seek "the withdrawal of Eritrean troops from Ethiopia and of local Amhara forces from Tigray [and] the initiation of credible transitional justice and accountability mechanisms." https://t.co/7b1sZmN6F1
Risks of Mass Atrocities in Ethiopia Remain High Despite Peace Deal by Ryan D'Souza
"However, civilians continue to suffer egregious human rights violations perpetrated by Eritrean & regional militia forces" - I could not agree more! #EritreaOutOfTigray

The truth: heinous crimes such as raping, extrajuducial killings, kidnappings, abduction & looting continue in escalted manner by #Eritrean & #Amhara forces in #ENDF controlled areas. Wondering how people are reportig through phone calls while there is no phone service at Mekelle
