A colleague (@AyalMeskeremAk) recently raised how the Global North narrative of vaccine hesitancy in Africa affected Vx discourse in Africa. Last year I addressed this at a @devex event: Why was there such a preoccupation about vaccine hesitancy in Africa but not in Europe/US? 👇🏽
Still getting quite high-caliber connection requests on Twitter. Global health folks, please note that I do not post anymore on Twitter/X due to its ownership and the owner’s policies. Please head to my profile on BlueSky for technical content.
👀 SCOOP: Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner told Politico staff Monday that those uncomfortable with the company's core values — including support for Israel's right to exist — should "work for other companies."

Deeply concerning that the negotiator will not attend the Pathogen Access & Benefit Sharing Negotiations. Anyone who has been involved in negotiations knows the important discussions happen in the hallways and over tea. Hoping @DrDzul can rethink this decision.
Critical WHO negotiations on the Pathogen Access & Benefit Sharing system will soon begin in Geneva.
Developing countries will be present, but Malaysia won’t send a delegation.
Why @KKMPutrajaya@DrDzul? Who will safeguard Malaysia’s interests & sovereignty?
A team of scientists from the Spanish Cancer Research Centre, led by the renowned Dr Mariano Barbacid, has achieved the complete and permanent disappearance of pancreatic cancer in experimental models.
This discovery could make a difference in the fight against this disease. 👏
🇩🇪 firmly believes that African nations must finally be properly represented in international institutions. That is why we are in favour of two permanent African seats to the #UN Security Council. @AussenMinDE
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney notes that Trump has announced his "Board of Peace" while Israel still hasn't stopped obstructing humanitarian aid for Gaza. And he reiterates the goal, opposed by Israel, of a Palestinian state.
Speaking to @NPR, Mary Robinson warns that President Trump’s 'Board of Peace' is a dangerous attempt to undermine the UN Security Council and concentrate power in his own hands.

“What he [the European bourgeois] cannot forgive Hitler for is not the crime in itself, the crime against man, it is not the humiliation of man as such, it is the crime against the white man, the humiliation of the white man, and the fact that he applied to Europe colonialist procedures which until then had been reserved exclusively for the Arabs of Algeria, the coolies of India, and the Blacks of Africa.” - Aime Césaire.
Two truths can be acknowledged: 1) that this was a great speech; 2) Carney very recently propped up the actions of the state of Israel.
Imperialists are suddenly feeling the effects on the boomerang very acutely. Time will tell whether this morality applies more uniformly.
This is the best speech by a world leader that I have read in a very long time. More later, but for now, just read what @MarkJCarney has to say. Rhetorically, at least, he has met the geopolitical moment.

This Palestinian woman posted on Facebook to honor her husband, killed by Israel 30 years ago while resisting.
Hours later, heavily armed forces stormed her home, abused and arrested her—then soldiers took photos to flaunt their “bravery.”
This is Israel.‼️
I have to say the sight of Western leaders fumbling at the prospect of an additional colonisation of Greenland is remarkable to see.
They enabled (and continue enabling) colonisation in Gaza by Israel, and of course all of our countries from Malaysia to Nigeria to DRC.
Yes indeed. The US is destroying world order.
And so did Israel for the last two years. With Germany support.
German and other European leaders cannot suddenly discover that the rule-based order is on its knee when they have governed over its demise for the last two years.
Complicity, tacit agreement, appeasement, silence: these have a cost. A high cost.
And you/we will all end up paying for it.
The majority of Europe stood by as Israel massacred 80,000 Palestinians. Some helped finance the genocide. Europe’s response to Venezuela has been pathetic. I’m not entirely sure the response to the annexation of Greenland will be any better.
@carlbildt@elgindy_ I will say, Carl, for those of us who are well-schooled in white supremacy, Gaza, and the apathy to 80,000 brown people being killed in cold blood, was a confirmation of everything we already knew. There’s a lot of reading I’d be happy to share.
@carlbildt@elgindy_ It was Gaza for me. Venezuela just confirms it. But Spain, both through public actions of their PM, and in my personal interactions with diplomats, still carries A LOT of favour.
Why is this blatantly ahistorical call for ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinians from a minister in Netanyahu’s government not a headline across the globe?
