@BulaPanigrahi Thank you Bula. Yes, I have added my words of motivation, and tried to inspire. My understanding: not every strategy works esp for undergraduates and when it comes to independent research, where students need to develop some knowlege around a topic area of their choice.

I would really love to know about the strategies to motivate undergraduate students in their independent research/project. Especially, if the independent research is a requirement for them to graduate it might be a major road block.

Strategies I have used so far: 1.Breaking down the project into several milestones. 2. Engaging them in class discussion after each mile-stone. 3. Tutoring them independently trying to understand their specific challenges. 4. Encourging them to think about future application.
