Privacy, and our basic freedoms, are under attack from all sides.
Incredibly, the so-called 'liberal democracies' are now leading these attacks; arresting their own citizens for posting online, rolling out facial recognition cameras, and moving to ban VPNs.
"What can men do against such reckless hate?" And are we losing this battle?
Absolutely not. There's still time to fight back, and we have much in our arsenal. We at @bitcoinpolicyuk have put together a 'Privacy Toolkit', that should let anyone, whatever their skill level, take a few small steps towards improving their privacy and their freedom, and making themselves just a little bit harder for governments to track and to oppress.
This isn't comprehensive, and we'll continue to update it as time goes by. We hope it's useful to everyone and serves as a handy guide to help us all push back against government overreach, wherever we find it.

๐จNEW: Britain has developed a reputation as perhaps the most censorious 'liberal' democracy.
How did we get here โ and what can we do about it?

Some genuinely positive news for UK crypto holders in today's Budget.
The Government has formally confirmed plans to reform the taxation of DeFi lending, liquidity pools and stablecoins from April 2027.
This could remove significant tax complications for millions of transactions.
Where has this been confirmed?
HMRC published its Budget 2026 Overview of Tax Legislation and Rates (OOTLAR) today, 28 October.
Sections 1.35 and 1.48 confirm the Government intends to introduce these reforms through Finance Bill 2026โ27.
These are official policy commitments, not speculation.
Does this mean the changes are approved?
Not quite.
The Government consulted on the proposals and published draft legislation in July 2026.
Today's Budget confirms its intention to proceed.
The Finance Bill must still pass through Parliament and receive Royal Assent before becoming law.
The planned implementation is April 2027.
DeFi lending and liquidity pools
Currently, depositing crypto into certain DeFi arrangements can trigger CGT, despite no actual profit being realised.
Under the proposed rules, qualifying transfers will receive no gain, no loss treatment.
Tax would instead arise when a relevant economic disposal occurs.
A major improvement.
Stablecoins
Eligible stablecoins will be treated more like money.
For individuals, qualifying disposals will become exempt from CGT.
Interest-like returns will generally be taxed as savings income.
Companies will have different rules, broadly based on loan relationship taxation.
HMRC estimates around 1.2 million individuals could be affected.
My thoughts
Credit where it's due.
While much of today's Budget increases taxation and compliance obligations, these reforms are sensible.
Bitcoin & Crypto taxation should reflect economic reality rather than create artificial taxable events.
The final legislation and eligibility criteria still matter, but this is a significant step in the right direction.

I want to take a moment and say this is one of the points where I am most proud of my team and their engineering skills.
It's taken time to build this infrastructure, and we're still in the early days of deployment. But with the initial build in place, this is commencing and continuing. Our initial post period results are in; and summarized in this extract from our annual report.
Onwards and upwards to ongoing deployment, and ever more Lightning yield.
Lightning is starting to deliver โก๏ธ
Since year end, our LSP has:
โ ~2x channel capacity to 11.7+ BTC
โ Routed over $1m in a single week, up from $50k
โ 4.6% blended annualised yield, with our best node at 10.2%
Early days, but the infrastructure is working. Full post-period results in our Annual Report ๐

Can Bitcoin help pay a firehallโs heating bill?
I put 2 Avalon Q miners to the test in a firehall garage. Two firetrucks full of water, near freezing outdoor temps, and I slept at the hall to monitor the situation

@jack thinks bitcoin payment adoption isnโt where it could or should be. We want your ideas on how Block, Spiral, and you can improve adoption odds within 5 years. We need a shift to change our trajectory. Hereโs more on our thinking. Now we want yours.
Delighted to be attending the relaunch of the Authoritarian Collaboration Index, now built on the Tyranny Tracker from @HRF (linked below).
National Liberal Club an excellent choice of location, for any number of reasons (aesthetic and thematic!)
Thanks to HRF and to Action for Democracy for the invitation.
