“This is not the man I left”: Byanyima’s anguish as Besigye remains in ICU
When the executive director of UNAIDS, Winnie Byanyima, walked into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mulago National Referral Hospital on Monday, she says she found a man she barely recognized.
Dr Kizza Besigye, Uganda’s four-time presidential candidate and one of the country’s longest-serving opposition figures, lay unconscious in a hospital bed under heavy security.
For Byanyima, the visit marked the culmination of months of mounting anxiety over her husband’s health while in state custody.
“This is not the man I left,” she later said, struggling to hold back tears after seeing him.

Please produce @SamMugumya
before a court of law if he has broken the law. Even a shambolic trial before a biased judge is far, far better than torture and maiming in a safe house.
This is what the cowardly regime has been doing to Ugandans without sparing anyone. After being brutally tortured, Comrade Sweet Pepsi sadly lost his life just a few months later.
It's DAY 586 since PC Charles Bahati of Bushenyi shot dead, Julius Ssemwaka, driver of UAX 480C & 'fled' on a boda boda, from armed patrol policemen. Police 'recovered' only the gun. Let's retweet daily to remind @igp_ug1, @CID1_UG & @PoliceUg to #ArrestSuspectPCCharlesBahat.
"Ugandan authorities are weaponizing the justice system to harass and target its critics and opposition,” ~Ashwanee Budoo-Scholtz, deputy Africa director @hrw
“The government needs to end these malicious prosecutions, and instead ensure accountability for the numerous rights abuses and scaling up of human rights violations in the country.”
@AgoraCFR , a Ugandan organization, reported that the armed forces killed at least seven people at Kivumbi’s home, including election officials, who had run into a garage for safety during the raid. https://t.co/b9rcXuOv9e
Athletes from #Uganda have gone 'missing' after the Commonwealth Games. Sadly, this is not uncommon. Athletes from dictatorships often stay behind once the competition ends. With no real hope of a better life and trapped under tyranny, it's expected.

I have never been this worried! I have never been this terrified! What did the state do to Dr. Kizza Besigye? When he collapsed in court, instead of immediate medical care, he was held in secret for close to four hours by the very authorities prosecuting him. His family and personal doctor were locked out until 8:00 PM.
A week later, he is still incredibly weak and still unable to talk.
Those that wanted to “deal with him” for all these years, finally had him all alone, unconscious!
This post isn’t made to alarm any one but yes Dr Kizza Besigye’s situation is worrying and critical!
Something doesn’t sit right with me about a country honoring another country for having successfully attacked it. This honoring of Israeli’s 1976 raid on Entebbe despite its being morally justified and provoked by Uganda etc should be commemorated by Israel and not Uganda.
This is Lt. Col Frank Mulema who has been executing torture orders at Sera Kasenyi training school in Entebbe. He was the commandant who would ensure that everything is done as Muhoozi wanted. Videos are recorded and shared with the Muhoozi who enjoys seeing people crying and crippled or sometimes visits the crime scene to laugh at the his victims.
He is a former Director of Civil military cooperation (CIMIC) before he became commander for Kasenyi, the headquarters of torture and learning Runyankore
He was last week brought to the 16th service battalion as a commander.
Watch this video and see what a jolly, strong man, brother Sam Mugumya was before his abduction and torture! You cannot fail to imagine the kind of hope he had for a better country as he and his friend danced to this song #TuliyambalaEngule. And then compare the man in this video and the one in the video that recently leaked of him in a torture chamber! Our nation is ruled by monsters, who must one day answer for their crimes!
"We went to court and got bail, something that greatly annoyed President Museveni who then went out of his way to campaign for scrapping bail for capital offences."
Sam Mugumya narrates his ordeal of how courts have been used as a tool of political persecution. He narrates how him and Hon. Francis Mwijukye among others were charged with robbery of a kabiriti phone.

Despite clear evidence, the regime continues to hold Sam Mugumya incommunicado with total impunity. After suffering severe brutality, he has now been left disabled. How do those responsible for these atrocities against innocent Ugandans even sleep at night?
FROM @hrw , Ugandan authorities are weaponizing the justice system to harass and target its critics and opposition,” said Ashwanee Budoo-Scholtz, deputy Africa director at Human Rights Watch. The government needs to end these malicious prosecutions, and instead ensure accountability for the numerous rights abuses and scaling up of human rights violations in the country.”
On July 10, armed plainclothes and uniformed soldiers dragged him from his car at a police roadblock and drove off with him to an unrevealed location. On the morning of July 19, the soldiers left him at a police station in Kampala, media reported.
The police took him 66 kilometers away to a magistrate’s court in Butambala later that day, where they brought new charges against him. Based on the charge sheet, Kivumbi’s charges arise from a speech he made to his supporters at a public gathering in Butambala on the day of his initial release.
The authorities did not specify the basis for the charges in the charge sheet. But in a video of this speech, seen by Human Rights Watch, Kivumbi criticized President Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force, for engaging in politics as a military officer.
Here is a leaked video of comrade Sam Mugumya, who remains missing since his abduction in August last year. The video was apparently leaked from an unknown detention facility where he is held incommunicado. He appears crippled; unable to walk without a walking frame -- evidence of effects of the torture he has suffered since abduction. Meanwhile, the regime continues to deny any knowledge of his whereabouts! But one day, those responsible for these crimes will be held accountable! #BringBackOurPeople!
Sad capture of our justice system. @MuwangaMKivumbi was disappeared for 19 days, but @ODPPUGANDA was ready with a charge sheet! @JudiciaryUG was also ready and charged and remanded a suspect whose rights were so violated! Where is our refuge? Where is justice? Ffe tugoinge wa?
