@HealthRanger Covid taught me that most "good" people were actually just cowards. They didn't have any principles, and only took it because they were afraid to think, were scared of offending authority, & perhaps losing their jobs. They turned from nice to outright bullies towards refuseniks.

And the line only ever moves one way. They never redraw a definition in a way that shrinks the pool.

Cholesterol is the cleanest example.

"Just by lowering the level at which we would consider high cholesterol to be a condition, overnight, they would expand the number of Americans who would be treated for cholesterol lowering drugs by 25 million people."

Cassels says the Canadian diabetes guidelines carry conflict-of-interest disclosures that run 15 or 20 pages.

"The pharmaceutical companies are very good at putting their own people on guideline committees."

You are not diagnosing more disease. You are manufacturing more patients.

@capitalistexp Just got back an exceptional blood test. Mysteriously my LDL was the only factor out of range. Ignored it. Doc says I'm the best looking 50-y/o he's ever seen. Bets on me being the one to hit 100. Yup, they've been changing the #'s. Statins are the new covid vaccine. Not for me.

@martianwyrdlord Smart people in general reproduce less because they favour quality over quantity. BUT nature favours the exact OPPOSITE. It is a numbers game for nature, which simply wants foolish but healthy young people to breed, and bear all the consequences for it.
