The Little Napoleons are right. Lifestyle businesses are for losers.

It finally occurred to me while on a Monday hike in these sunny, beautiful mountains with my wife and homeschooled kids.

I was thinking about how much I was missing out on. The market DOMINATION. The sweet taste of my own ego among a network of fellow ego-maniacs. How my clients currently choosing me over the big agencies were actually holding me back.

I’m not bothered by the money, really. I have plenty of that. My yearly profits are more than most agency owners. It’s just that I could be making so much more IMPACT if I was in some office DOMINATING and rubbing my success in the face of everyone who told me I couldn’t. And here I am instead just enjoying time with my family and kids as they grow up so fast.

Then, it happened.

Along came another couple hiking down the mountain. We struck up a conversation. They were traveling around the world. They owned a successful wholesaling company, but hated it. They wanted to travel. They had a health scare. So they sold and started a consultancy. “We travel and schedule time with our clients as needed. It’s awesome.”

My heart sank.

“More losers” I realized. Look at these pathetic morons out here traveling. They should be back in the UK in the cold and gray hellscape of winter, sacrificing it all for that market domination.

We kept hiking. Made it up to the view you see in this photo. There was a guy in his mid 50s and his son who goes to the college. Turns out, the guy works with architects and structural engineers on massive infrastructure projects. “It’s really rewarding” he told me. “I had built this great network back in my previous partnership, and now I take on the projects I want and spend my winters here with son.”

Damnit. Again. How can there be this many losers in one hike!? Does ANYONE care about domination anymore!?

The worst part? These people were just like me: working on important projects that agencies would kill for, and yet they didn’t have to SACRIFICE their lives like those REAL business owners.

It’s just such a shame to see.

I’m telling you: Nothing is worth giving up the opportunity to chase the thrill of dominating an entire market. Sure, your chances of success are less than 10% by definition, and even then, success comes with a long list of sacrifices that require time away from your family, working with people you have to for the money, and constant stress of all the attached strings.

But, the sweet taste of domination. That’s what you must focus on. That’s what drives you. The look on the faces of your competition when they realize that YOU and you alone are the BEST.

Everything must be sacrificed for this, my friends. When you die alone and wondering where all the time and lost opportunities you’ll never get back went to, you just have to remember:

You were the BEST.
