@tompeck My view is most people haven’t checked their cars yet and assume their large newish SUV will be caught. Whereas in reality it is a very low bar so likely exempt. Once introduced the heat will die down as people realise they don’t pay.

@RantyHighwayman In the medium term Cycleway 8 west along Millbank needs to be segregated and bidirectional by the river (like embankment). Plenty of space the whole way to Battersea bridge. This would need junction amending again here though.

@TBallam @ediz1975 Highway Code says vehicles should give the same distance overtaking a cycle as a car. Take this as 1.5m, ply’s width of bike 0.75m some gap away from gutter filled with debris 0.5m, bus width 2.5m. So we now have a 5m wide lane…🙄

@ediz1975 As you can see from further back along this cycle lane it is not well designed (it is old and Wandsworth so what can you expect! Pointing out the blue sign specifically allowing cycles in the lane. Bus driver breaking Highway Code by using horn to another user.

@VincentStops Bus and cycle shared lanes actually slow down the speed of buses. The bus has to go at the speed of the slowest cyclist. This may have been fine 20 years ago when numbers were low.
Park lane has a dedicated bus lane still. Banning taxis from using bus lanes would help buses.

@EnduranceCoach Also at gym this week and was chatting to a guy on bike training for his first middle distance. People who started in lockdown didn’t have any races so now only beginning to come through maybe. One can hope!
