@MCCCANM You can easily get tunnel vision responding to an emergency, which could lead you to not paying attention to the bright red lights in front of you telling you that it’s not safe to enter the runway. Not saying that’s what happened, but it’s easy to do.

@MCCCANM At one of my previous airports, when we, ops, taught airfield driving, the rule is even if ATC gives you clearance to cross, if the red lights (runway status lights) were illuminated, you did not cross. You were to contact ATC again and let them know of the disagreement.
