A Christmas miracle! In the early hours of Christmas Day, Sonje presented our Umani family with the most wonderful gift: her first child, a newborn baby girl. We have named her Sulwe, which means ‘morning star’ in the Luo language.
Sonje is one of Umani’s pioneering elephants. Shot by poachers as a baby, she miraculously survived but will always walk with a serious limp. But as Sonje reminds us, even the most far-gone cases have hope.
Now, Sonje has welcomed her very own baby into the world! We’re putting together the full story, but we couldn’t wait to share this wonderful news with you.
This is... maybe the most horrifying political ad I have ever seen.
Partly because of the content, partly because it's a reasonable portrayal of the world we are in and will be heading deeper into if we men don't vote in massive numbers for Kamala Harris.
Samuel J. Seymour witnessed the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and lived long enough to tell his story on television in 1956 for the show “I’ve got a secret”. He was 5 years old when his godmother took him to see “Our American Cousin”. He sat in the balcony across from Lincoln’s presidential box. He remembered Lincoln waving and smiling as he made his way to his rocking chair. He heard the gun shot and saw Lincoln slumped forward in his chair. He didn’t understand what happened to Lincoln but was worried about the man who leaped from the box to the stage, John Wilkes Booth. Not long after this he passed away on April 12th, he was 96.
This #ThrowbackThursday we’re celebrating the incredible journey of new mum, Mudanda. https://t.co/bnVa4Gi0sF
Rescued in 2013, a suspected orphan of ivory poaching, Mudanda was emotionally volatile for many years – it is common for poaching victims to need time to overcome psychological scars – but time is a great healer, and she found a sense of peace. Then, 22mths ago, she mated with ex-orphan Laikipia, and last week Mudanda came home to give birth to a daughter, right on our proverbial doorstep! Now, with baby Miale by her side, she has her whole life ahead of her 🐘💚
Elizabeth Francis, the oldest living person in the U.S., has died at age 115. Her granddaughter described her as a joyful, faith-filled woman who lived by the motto, "Treat people like you want to be treated" — a powerful pearl of wisdom we should all live by! Rest In Power
In 2013, our teams saved Mudanda's life, after finding her orphaned in Tsavo. Raised and rewilded, last week she returned 'home', and as the first rays of sun heralded a new day, we celebrated a new life! Baby Miale, the Swahili for 'rays', is a perfect little bundle and Mudanda's first calf. Read their story: https://t.co/JyUABlSEun
#Throwback to this time one week ago & the moment we met Chapa for the first time! His mother, Chaimu, came ‘home’ to give birth outside the Ithumba stockades. She's an orphan we rescued & raised to independence. Her tiny baby Chapa is our 62nd grandcalf (wild-born calves born to orphans we've rewilded). Discover Chaimu & Chapa's story: https://t.co/jSL7IKtexc
Tiny trunks don’t come cuter than little miracle, Chapa. A newborn elephant who made his debut into this world earlier this week, he is our 62nd ‘grand calf’. His proud mum is an orphan named Chaimu who we rescued, raised & rewilded. Incredibly, she chose to return to her human family to give birth, right outside our Ithumba Unit! We’ve shared the full story here: https://t.co/jSL7IKtexc
This 500-year-old portrait may seem ordinary, but it's one of the most mysterious in history.
There's so much detail that you can read every musical note on this small page.
But look closer — an unsettling secret is hiding in plain sight... 🧵
Ready or not, here I come... wait, we found you Shujaa! 👀 Or was it all just a plan to eat some secret greens? He is actually one of the Nairobi Nursery's most playful characters possessing an infectious energy: if he's not chasing the warthogs, he's goading his friends into play. This zest for life helped orphan Shujaa survive a tough start to life - he was discovered in the mud & all alone: https://t.co/bBZVkoBdB9
