@DanNeidle Because it’s the easiest tax to not pay for cash flow. HMRC much more aggressive on PAYE/VAT. The filing vs payment deadline makes it a softer deadline and if you’re trying to create cash flow, CT is a good bet.

@DanNeidle Hospitality is unique insofar its tethered to the idea of food, which is mostly zero rated. In this country we have eaten the life out of a critical part of social fabric and this is why we’re asking for a level playing field against our supermarket and EU peers. 4/4

@DanNeidle This isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about an industry that has become a race to the bottom. VAT cut gives margin to smaller operators that otherwise wouldn’t survive without scale. This is why we have so many ubiquitous hospitality chains in the UK. /1

@DanNeidle In your piece you say 45% of hospitality businesses won’t get the impact. That’s a huge distortion and you must know that. We’re talking about indie restaurants, bars, cafes which survive in most other countries but not here - all of which would t/o more than the threshold. /3

@DanNeidle It’s also a cultural thing. Why do we penalise eating out at 20% via the same food you can buy at the supermarket. European countries have much more social attitudes towards food and the social impact of eating together - and I for one would like more of the same in the UK. /2

.@GWRHelp sat in a cold, unpowered train 3 minutes outside Paddington having started the day at 5am was not how I envisaged paying my respects to HM. Get a grip and issue some proper updates on how / whether you’re going to get people moving in time for the funeral.

@Politic72243714 @overprivileged2 @benshapiro How can a serious rational adult ask why the weapon matters? Do you want to go against an AR15 with a fire extinguisher like the guys above? Also knife crime per capita is still actually worse in the US than UK. For us it’s just so much more shocking so gets reported more.

@GWRHelp @HeathrowExpress why are GWR ticket holders at Paddington stopped from using the gates on Platform 6 - especially when a GWR train is departing from Platform 6? The staff there explained it as some kind of dispute between you both.
