Good morning! We are on a cards kick early in the year - for today's AM conference, we're talking about critical heart failure and myocarditis! #PedsICU#PedsCICU#umichpedscards
I leave the hospital now after more than 52 hours of nonstop work, minimal sleep, minimal food and a rage of emotions. The event was tragic. There are no words that truly describe the horrific scene, but what we were going through can't be left untold.

This year, @Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals list placed Michigan Medicine at #15 in the world and #5 in the U.S. 🌎 🏥

Setting the stage: making sure that important conversations are seen as important. Give time. Give space. Sit down. Great conversation by Dr. Andrist, Dr. Gabrial, Dr. Phelps, and Dr. Flori. @EricaAndrist @GabrialMariam@KbronderMD@DrHeidiFlori#PedsICU
@karolinecelly Point is: this is a global problem. Egypt is IN AFRICA, and I’ve been heartbroken to see how much racism happens there. So, as stated, this isn’t an issue in one country/region and therefore needs a global response/action.
@karolinecelly I'm American/Egyptian. I was in Dublin with my (Irish) husband. We were eating late night in a store when a woman came in drunk, causing chaos. Someone in the store called security, who happened to be originally from Nigeria (we later found out), (cont)
@karolinecelly is far more welcome in Ireland than someone like her. We told him we were so sorry he went through that and admired his calm demeanor. I teared up when he thanked us for standing up for him, saying this has happened to him before an not often does anyone say anything (cont).
@karolinecelly asked her nicely to leave. She said degrading comments/spat at him. We kept looking around, waiting for one of the store employees to stand up for him. We realized then we needed to say something. My husband helped escort her out, as he explained that the guard (cont).

Working in an adult #covid unit makes me realize that from a medical standpoint, I couldn’t be more excited to go back to the #PICU. However, I spent more time doing things that reminded me of why I went into medicine in the first place. These stories really hit home.
Does it matter what the CXR looks like in pediatric acute hypoxemic respiratory failure?
Excited to share my work with @DrHeidiFlori@maq_curley and others!

Big for #COVID19 therapy: the compassionate use results for remdesivir in 53 patients looks very encouraging, especially in very sick patients on mechanical ventilation with 18% fatality (only, expect > 50%) and overall 68% improvement https://t.co/oP8eDK6jYL @NEJM
A cohort of patients with severe Covid-19 received treatment with remdesivir under a compassionate-use protocol. Improvement in oxygen-support status was observed in 68% of patients, and overall mortality was 13% over a median follow-up of 26 days. #COVID19
