Last week I testified before the @UKParliament's Joint Committee on Human Rights @HumanRightsCtte on AI and human rights. A few things I said that I think matter beyond the committee room 🧵
The root cause of the small boats challenge is Brexit.
Read my article in the New Statesman on the real political dividing line on border control between Labour and Reform, and my thoughts on how we restore it.

In 2017, @amnesty published a seminal report on #Syria’s notorious Saydnaya Prison which we described as a Human slaughterhouse with Mass hangings and extermination. If you want to understand why Syrians feel they can finally breathe, read this report.

More than anything else I’ve written, this piece about the “compliance-ization” of Trust and Safety felt like news reporting. It describes major changes that are self-evident to many people inside platforms, and largely invisible to everyone else.

This legislative change will only deepen human rights violations against LGBT people & entrench bullying & harassment in schools.
Blocking access to an entire social media platform is a grossly disproportionate measure that violates the right to free expression & information of millions of users of Instagram in Türkiye and should be reversed immediately @hrw@ifadeorgtr https://t.co/cuN92m7Vrg
Our new @amnesty's report on #Sudan documents how recently manufactured foreign weapons have been transferred into and around Sudan, often in flagrant breach of the existing Darfur arms embargo.
We found that recently manufactured or recently transferred weapons and ammunition from countries including China, Russia, Serbia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Yemen are being imported in large quantities into Sudan, and then in some cases diverted into Darfur.

Our new @amnesty's report "Under-protected and over-restricted: The state of the right to protest in 21 countries in Europe" paints a disturbing picture of a #Europe-wide onslaught against the right to protest.
States often respond to people peacefully taking to the streets through with repressive laws and policies, frequent use of unnecessary and excessive force by law enforcement, a wide range of unwarranted and discriminatory restrictions and an increasing use of invasive surveillance.

“Amnesty’s research [published today] paints a deeply disturbing picture of a Europe-wide onslaught. Across the continent, authorities are vilifying, impeding, deterring and unlawfully punishing people who peacefully protest” - @amnesty's @AgnesCallamard.
