@Victor13Liu I think it is important to recognize this victory for the #LGBTQ community but we are not done yet. One way I think we can further promote inclusivity is by incorporating diversity education in military training. I am not sure what that may look like but can be a start #wgst106
@giulia_palaia Supporting sexual assault/abuse survivors can be very difficult especially if you have never experienced such trauma. It is important to educate yourself on how to best support your loved ones #wgst106#believesurvivors
Another Title IX failure. How can we fix Title IX so its requirements are consistently met across institutions in the U.S.? If Title IX enforced a uniform procedure for handling sexual assault victims may feel more comfortable speaking out having a sense of reliability #wgst106
This statistic never fails to shock me. It's crazy how many sexual assault cases are swept under the rug because many victims do not feel comfortable speaking out against their perpetrators. Sometimes silence can be easier than getting justice. #WGST106#MeToo
It is important to address how our history created disparities among people of color. Structural determinants of health are rooted deep in our history and society. We need to start at the roots #wgst106#BlackHistoryMonth
This graphic does a really great job of showing the direct contrast between confidence levels in boys and girls. I think this idea may stem from common stereotypes that portray women as less intelligent and less capable than men. #WGST106#WomenInSTEM
For example, a study on Au schools (Watt et al., 2006) found little difference in achievement, but discovered girls rated themselves lower than boys in math confidence. This lack of confidence is reflected in class enrollment, with more boys enrolling in harder classes than girls
How do we expect survivors to speak out when our institutions side with the oppressor? Sexual assault IS a problem. As many as 25% of college women experience a sexual assault while in college yet current institutions fail to comply with the most basic needs of survivors. #MeToo
Passage of the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act will void agreements that secretly silence sexual assault victims in the workplace. A great victory but we must not forget student survivors continue to be silenced by Title IX failures #wgst106
The letter reaffirmed Title IX’s requirements related to sexual violence in schools and explained schools’ responsibility to support survivors. But during Trump’s presidency, many of the Title IX rights that protect survivors were reversed, expanding the rights of the accused.
@hoconnell2024 I think what people don’t realize is that banning abortions do not lower their presence, in fact it only causes abortions to be more dangerous. So what is the real goal of abortion bans? So the government can have another way to oppress women? #wgst106#MyBodyMyChoice
Why is it that when women are raped or sexually assaulted the first questions tend to be “were you under the influence” or “what were you wearing” as if victims could control the actions of their perpetrators? There is no one to blame but the abusers themselves. #wgst106#metoo
@hoconnell2024 I would have never thought of this correlation. But now that you mentioned it I definitely think this increase could be due to the lockdown that trapped many children in toxic homes #wgst106
@UN_Women @danja_stafford It’s crazy how people will refuse to call themselves feminists when we are all fighting for the same rights #wgst106#feminist
@WomenEmployed@Juliaadoyl This shows just how disparity falls differently on women especially women of color. Now with the uncertainty of COVID we need changes in place to protect the lives of the underprivileged. #wgst106
As Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos wreaked havoc on college campuses, including when it comes to the rights of student survivors.
Under @SecCardona, @usedgov has promised to undo DeVos's #TitleIX rule changes, but not until May 2022. Student survivors can't wait that long.
@Daman51ngh I think there should be changing rooms in men’s bathrooms as well. Who said that only women should take care of their children? Let’s move away from separate spheres ideology and focus on equality. #wgst106#EqualityForAll#equalparenting
About 1/4 women in the U.S. will have an abortion by age 45. Do we actually think making abortions illegal will lower this number or will it just make them less available and more dangerous? #wgst106#MyBodyMyChoice
