Support for the Phoenix Bus Project has been incredible in both web3 and irl spaces. After doing body work on the beast, I attended a networking event with the mayor and local business leaders. It was amazing to have the younger crowd approach me about SA after taking this leap!

Personal opinion alert: on web3 gaming studios shutting down.

A common denominator I see with the web3 gaming studios shutting down is that they leveraged NFTs and blockchain in a "web2.5" approach. Meaning that they didn't use blockchain tech to the fullest extent, and NFTs were just a little enhancement to the experience, not creating a new category or a big value addition to players, but still competing with traditional games (where you can also trade those skins, just not as NFTs).

To change this industry and compete with multi-billion dollar studios we need a big shake-up, something that completely changes the paradigm of gaming, which I believe blockchain tech provides via the chance of building real digital economies.
Building a sustainable real game economy, leveraging blockchain tech to the fullest extent, is what will be the key differentiator in the long run for web3 games. The game that cracks down the code of building a sustainable economy as the backbone will unlock a new sustainable growth cycle for the whole industry. This will allow borders to be broken and casual players to be rewarded via the economy created by the more financially involved players. Of course, the game still needs to be fun, but just having NFTs in your game isn't going to enough make it attractive or differentiated from what already exists out there.

It is very clear that the industry as a whole has not unlocked the next big growth cycle, and we still do not know what that is going to be. We don't know who will succeed and who won't, but the reality is that an "alt season" is not going to come and save all studios. The industry is in desperate need of rewarding sustainability and fun for the users.

All this said this tweet isn't intended to kick other studios while they're down, it sucks and makes me feel really bad to see other studios shutting down, and I really empathize with the employees and founders affected out there. Sending a big hug to everyone, and thank you if you made it this far in this read. ❤️
