A robot-turtle named Cornelia has shed light on how endangered green sea turtles can swim more than a marathon a day, while eating just algae and seagrass. The research from Auckland University of Technology was published in @SciReports:

Pleased to hear the echo in @NewstalkZB about the #Engineering we have done at @AUTuni. Thanks guys, really important for our kids to find interest in #science #Engineering and #savetheplanet

To unlock the secrets of green sea turtle power - or how this ocean-going endangered species can swim more than a marathon in a day, while eating just algae and seagrass - @AUTuni scientists created Cornelia. Watch her in action here https://t.co/OhtgeQegHa

Thanks @nzherald for the echo.
Hopefully it will inspire new generations students to join our @BioDesignLabNZ @AUTuni to study #Engineering to protect and preserve our planet.

Does swimming a marathon a day while eating nothing but salad sound hard to you? 🥗 Consider the green sea turtle!

Nick van der Geest, @Lorenz0Garcia, and colleagues @BioDesignLabNZ developed a new soft-robotic green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), providing insights into the real animal's biomechanics during swimming

A @SciReports paper presents a soft-robotic sea turtle that reproduces the real animal's form and function to provide biomechanical insights without the need for invasive experimentation. https://t.co/Mz7sCeAZXk

🐢 Thrilled to share our recent research paper on Sea Turtles and their swimming strategies. Evolution never ceases to amaze and inspire. 🌊

Is this the first #Robotics sea #turtle which completely reproduces the real animal #biomechanics and also a new path to substitute invasive animal experimentation with #robots?

#Artificial #muscles are a good system for #rehabilitation #robots in #physiotherapy but it is necesary to reduce the temperature to make them viable. At @BioDesignLabNZ @AUTuni, we provide a potential solution playing with their length https://t.co/qpc29FFP9A via @ioppublishing

Just after completing all my testing for my PhD my dad got this very cool tattoo. Those who know me well will identify unique details related to my research. I would not have achieved what I did without my dad and @AUTBioDesign with support from @Lorenz0Garcia🐢🐬🦑🐠🦾
