A very special day for football fans around the world as the 23rd FIFA World Cup kicks off today.
This global event is a celebration of sport’s unique ability to bring people together across borders, cultures, and nationalities. I extend my best wishes to the host nations USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as all participating nations, for a successful and memorable tournament.
Pakistan is proud to be part of this global celebration through its renowned sporting goods industry. The official match balls, “Trionda”, being used at this World Cup have been manufactured in Pakistan, reflecting the skill and craftsmanship of our people.
May this tournament inspire friendship, unity, and sporting excellence across the world.
Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal. Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps. Peace has never been this close as it is now.

Pakistan prioritises macroeconomic stability, revenue mobilisation, and long-term sustainability over short-term populism
The current market situation is difficult. Petrol prices have risen to Rs 414.78 per litre following the latest adjustment. Families, transporters, and daily wage earners are facing real hardship. This is precisely what happens when conflict erupts in our neighbourhood, disrupting the Strait of Hormuz and driving global crude oil prices sharply higher. Pakistan has consistently worked to mediate and reduce tensions in the region. Many of you criticised these efforts as unnecessary, yet the rapid impact of even a short period of instability has made the consequences clear.
I fully sympathise with the majority of Pakistanis who are bearing the burden. The middle class and lower-income groups are hit hardest by rising transport and essential goods costs. However, I support the Government of Pakistan’s policy decisions in these challenging circumstances.
Pakistan, like Bangladesh, Egypt, and Indonesia, is a net oil importer with a comparable economy size, large population, and exposure to global shocks. All these countries have faced steep increases in landed costs due to the recent Brent crude surge.
Yet Pakistan has chosen the path of full pass-through of international prices combined with a strong Petroleum Levy. This approach generates critical non-tax revenue and prevents the unsustainable subsidy burdens seen elsewhere. Egypt and Indonesia are currently absorbing billions of dollars in subsidies, which risks larger fiscal deficits and greater future pressure from the IMF. Bangladesh remains caught between partial price increases and serious import financing challenges.
Pakistan demonstrates clear advantages compared with these peers:
1- Fiscal Discipline and Revenue Generation: The Petroleum Levy has already exceeded collection targets and supports IMF compliance as well as a primary surplus of 1.3 percent of GDP in FY25. In contrast, peer countries are consuming large budgetary resources on subsidies, increasing long-term debt risks.
2- Currency Stability: Recent management of the Pakistani rupee has remained relatively steadier than the sharp depreciations recorded in the Egyptian pound and Indonesian rupiah, thereby limiting imported inflation.
3- Transparency and Predictability: Fortnightly adjustments based on global Platts benchmarks avoid sudden shortages or black-market activity. There are no major reports of fuel rationing or long queues, unlike some peers that have introduced sales limits or work-from-home mandates for government employees.
4- Inflation Containment Relative to Vulnerability: Despite the external oil shock, Pakistan’s projected inflation for 2026 remains better contained than Egypt’s double-digit levels, reflecting tighter monetary and fiscal coordination under the IMF programme.
5- Growth Resilience: The IMF projects Pakistan’s real GDP growth at 3.6 percent in 2026, which is respectable given our large population base and external pressures, while avoiding the extreme subsidy distortions that could derail other economies.
In summary, while pump prices feel painful today, Pakistan prioritises macroeconomic stability, revenue mobilisation, and long-term sustainability over short-term populism. This responsible stance positions the country more favourably for relief when global crude prices eventually ease, without creating the heavy fiscal hangover that heavy subsidisation has produced in comparable net oil-importing economies.
Let us stay informed and united during these times. inshaAllah Khair. Pakistan Zindabad.
@RashidRauf@MDUmairKh A army chief of a 3rd country visiting a country in war where not only them but their proxies launching missiles from right and left and Israel the main reason is waiting for any excuse to retaliate. A country whose 90% leadership is dead in the first minute. That country. So yes

On my personal behalf and on behalf of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, I sincerely thank President Trump for graciously accepting our request to extend the ceasefire to allow ongoing diplomatic efforts to take their course.
With the trust and confidence reposed in, Pakistan shall continue its earnest efforts for negotiated settlement of conflict.
I sincerely hope that both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and be able to conclude a comprehensive ‘Peace Deal’ during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict.

Field Marshal risked his life when he went to Iran knowing well that negotiators were being targeted, and the Iranian delegation didn't even return the favour by coming to Islamabad despite several attempts.
What makes it more tragic and funnier is that it's for their OWN good.
@geronimouh@rumshum12 Not immediate and with toll. The US blockage was done later and in response same. Both wrong.
Later Iran attacked ships and USA seized ships. Both wrong.
All I'm saying is shouldn't put more conditions to talk. Happy that ceasefire extended and hope sense prevails & end it all.
