The team behind a paper published in @ScienceMagazine yesterday have shed some light on the processes behind the formation of large magma filled cracks under the earth's surface. COMET Scientist @GeoAndyHooper was one of the co-authors. Read more here: https://t.co/EFSTPMoPbF
Heroic and successful efforts were made to save working machines close to the edge of the #lava. The machines were being used to construct defensive walls against lava flow into ##Grindavík - the same walls along which workers drove the machinery to safety.
The first InSAR and pixel offset result of ALOS-2 from GSI, showing a max 3m LOS displacement.
The data was acquired 7hr after the earthquake and the result was published <1 day.
