"। এবারে, বইটির কভারে যার ছবি দেখা যাচ্ছে তিনি কে? তিনি হলেন বাংলার চিরায়ত কথাসাহিত্যিক শরৎচন্দ্র চট্টোপাধ্যায়। বইটির নাম কী? বইটির নাম " পথের দাবী "। শরৎচন্দ্রের বিখ্যাত উপন্যাসগুলির একটি। আয়রনি হলো, এগজ্যাক্টলি এই বইটিকেই আজ থেকে ঠিক একশো বছর আগে ব্রিটিশ সরকার ব্যান করেছিল রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহী বিপ্লববাদী প্রাচরণার অভিযোগে। একশো বছর পর তথাকথিত স্বাধীন দেশে ওই একই বইকে তুলে ধরে সেই একই রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহিতার অভিযোগে চ্যাঁচাচ্ছে কতগুলি বহিরাগত ঊনমানব। ভারতের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামের সময় যাদের পূর্বসূরিরা ব্রিটিশের দালালি করত। এই ছাপড়িকাট ঊনমানবগুলি শরৎচন্দ্রকে চেনে না। হয়ত কখনও নামও শোনেনি। " পথের দাবী " কে তারা রাস্তায় ছুঁড়ে ফেলে পায়ে মাড়িয়েছে।
তবে হ্যাঁ, এতকিছুর পরও বুকস্টলটিকে জম্বিরা বন্ধ করতে পারেনি। রীতিমতন যুদ্ধ করে বুকস্টলটিকে চালু রেখেছেন এলাকার মানুষ এবং সিপিএম কর্মীরা।

I have spent years in media. Linking a woman's name to a sex racket without any verification isn’t just a mistake. It is driven by hate and an intentional act to destroy reputation. In this case, there was no raid, no hostel and no source.

@nehafolksinger must pursue criminal charges against @ABPNews so that other newsrooms are more careful. She must use this case to secure every woman and warn every newsroom driven by hate or persuing an agenda.

On August 18, 2007, Rizwanur Rahman, a middle-class Muslim man, legally married Priyanka Todi, daughter of Lux Cozi industrialist Ashok Todi. Strongly opposing the interfaith and socio-economically unequal union, the Todi family used their financial and political influence to enlist senior Kolkata Police officials to intimidate the couple.

Under intense police coercion, Priyanka was persuaded to temporarily return to her parents in early September, after which her family severed all communication between the newlyweds. On September 21, 2007, Rizwanur was found dead with severe head injuries beside railway tracks in Kolkata; while police quickly labeled it a suicide, his family and the public suspected foul play by his in-laws.

The incident sparked massive public outrage, leading to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe that uncovered an intricate web of institutional harassment, police corruption, and corporate intimidation. There was a long drawn court case too on this issue.After the Supreme Court mandated in 2011 that the case proceed under charges of abetment to suicide (Section 306) rather than murder, Ashok Todi and his co-accused filed multiple discharge petitions. The case remains officially open and continuing within the Indian judicial system, though the trial has been heavily delayed.

Joymalya Bagchi practiced as a prominent criminal defense advocate at the Calcutta High Court. He represented Ashok Todi in both the High Court and city sessions court hearings, defending Todi against charges of abetment to suicide following the death of his son-in-law, Rizwanur Rahman. Bagchi also acted as the legal representative when serving notices on behalf of Todi's daughter, Priyanka Todi.

This is the same Justice Joymalya Bagchi who trivialised the massive deletion of names from voter list in West Bengal during SIR exercise saying - "If someone cannot vote in this election.. does not mean their right can be deprived forever, they can vote in the next election".
