What if we could autocomplete DNA based on function?
Today in @Nature, we share semantic design—a strategy for function-guided design with genomic language models that leverages genomic context to create de novo genes with desired functions.🧵

🌟 Another year, another incredible research retreat! 🎉 Thank you so much to the committee (@Songlaboratory, Nick Brown, @bryant_kl, @NitDawg) and all who participated. 📚 Let's carry this momentum forward and continue to push the boundaries of knowledge in the year ahead! 💡
We just updated our large database of PhD fellowships.
For each of the 190 entries, we provide description of the fellowship, link, amount, deadline, and eligibility criteria (e.g. citizenship).

Our new story on Airn - a 90kb long, unstable lncRNA that recruits Polycomb and transcriptionally silences a 15-megabase genomic domain. How? With the aid of 3D chromatin architecture and DNA regulatory elements.
The BCB students of @UNCBBSP with seminar speaker @aaronquinlan. Amazing talk on new tech to understand Human Germline Mutation. As always great to chat genomics and data with Aaron!
This is the paper that the terrorist who killed 10 people in Buffalo cited. @sapinker described the genetic variants as "collectively predict[ing] a big chunk of variance in educational attainment", which is false. 1/2
went back to my school in Nepal in dec,as the only scientist the students have ever met; who looks like them! Had a great discussion about developing scientific infrastructures globally! This #WomenInScience day, reminding myself & everyone that representation is the first step!
Thrilled to share our recent paper using matched scRNAseq and scATACseq of human tumors to understand the regulatory logic of cancer cells! Shoutout to @RegnerMJ and Kamila for leading the project! @MolecularCell@UNC_Lineberger

The Leadership Development Scholars Program has selected five new scholars for the 2021-2022 academic year: @lizachartampila, @gilbertgiri2, Amanda Velez, Emily Bulik-Sullivan with @UNCBBSP and Anneliese Long with anthropology: https://t.co/rJT5CDGA4R
no wonder why academia is a family business...! I recently had a "money" conversation with my mentors and as an int'l student who is here completely on her own, a simple "we'll figure this out TOGETHER goes a long way!" #hopethischanges
Extremely proud of the team for getting this out! Open sourcing and documenting the method was a massive effort (60 page appendix, 10k lines of code) but #AlphaFold is now free to use for anyone! Really excited to see it widely used.
