Fresh tension has been reported from Manipur after allegations surfaced that heavy firing took place near Mongkot Chepu, a Kuki ancestral village in Ukhrul district, around 10:00 PM on Tuesday night.

According to statements issued by members of the Kuki community, groups identified as NSCN Eastern Flank, NSCN-IM, Tangkhul volunteers, relatives’ volunteers, Arambai Tenggol, and alleged Myanmar-based Meitei militants were involved in the firing towards areas surrounding the village. The claims could not be independently verified.

Residents alleged that innocent villagers, including women and children, spent the entire night in fear as firing reportedly continued towards the village and nearby areas.

The statement further alleged that armed Myanmar-based Meitei militants and NSCN Eastern Flank members remain active in parts of the ongoing Manipur crisis despite strict law-and-order measures being enforced in several Kuki-dominated areas. Concerns were also raised over alleged repeated armed movements and firing incidents targeting Kuki villages.

Serious allegations were also made that Tangkhul women and Meitei Meira Paibis blocked the movement of Central Forces on certain roads while armed groups allegedly operated freely in the area. Community representatives claimed that such incidents have further increased insecurity among civilians living in vulnerable villages.

The Kuki community stated that several Kuki villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts no longer feel secure under the present circumstances and demanded that these villages be brought under Kangpokpi district administration for the protection and safety of civilians.

The statement added that if no concrete measures are taken to address the concerns of minority Kuki villages, democratic protests and public movements demanding security, justice, and equal constitutional protection may be intensified in the coming days.

The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) strongly condemns the continued silence, indifference, and inaction of the concerned authorities regarding the innocent Kuki civilians from Taphou Kuki Village who remain missing and unlawfully detained. Despite repeated appeals, peaceful protests, public shutdowns, and demands for justice, no concrete rescue operation or transparent information regarding their safety and whereabouts has been made available till today.

Families of the missing civilians continue to suffer immense emotional pain, fear, and uncertainty while innocent lives remain at risk. The continued delay in taking meaningful action is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.

KHRC strongly demands the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA, Central Forces, Assam Rifles, and all concerned agencies to immediately launch intensive search and rescue operations in Ukhrul, Senapati, and Liangmai areas where armed groups are reportedly active. Every passing day without action further increases insecurity, trauma, and fear among vulnerable civilians.

Innocent civilians must never become victims of communal hatred, armed intimidation, political agendas, or illegal detention. Human rights, dignity, justice, and security must be protected equally for all communities.

The Kuki Community will not remain silent until every innocent civilian from Taphou Kuki Village is safely and unconditionally released. Justice delayed is justice denied.

The KHRC therefore:

1. Demands immediate search and rescue operations in Ukhrul, Senapati, and Liangmai areas.
2. Demands the safe and unconditional release of all innocent Kuki civilians from Taphou Kuki Village.
3. Urges the Government of India and security agencies to ensure protection and security for vulnerable civilians.
4. Appeals for transparent investigation and accountability regarding all incidents involving innocent civilians.
5. Calls upon national institutions, media organisations, and democratic bodies to stand for humanity, justice, and peace.

Subject: Concern regarding false allegations against Shri Lalboi Vaiphei and request for intervention.

Sir,

The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) would like to draw your kind attention to the false allegations against Shri Lalboi Vaiphei, Chief of Leilon Vaiphei Village in Kangpokpi District, made in a representation reportedly submitted by certain Naga organisations to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, your office, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur. The contents of the said representation have been widely circulated on social media platforms, resulting in defamation, ridicule, and targeted attacks against Shri Lalboi Vaiphei.

It is deeply wrong and unethical to accuse any individual of a serious crime without credible evidence. Shri Lalboi Vaiphei, as the Chief of Leilon Vaiphei Village, is a respected and responsible leader, not only among his own villagers but also among neighbouring communities. To the best of our knowledge, Shri Lalboi Vaiphei has absolutely no connection whatsoever with the alleged abduction of civilians. At the time the incident occurred, he was out of station for medical reasons.

These baseless allegations and the malicious propaganda being spread against him have endangered his personal safety and security. Such irresponsible accusations have created an atmosphere of hostility and placed his life at serious risk.

In view of the gravity of the situation, we earnestly urge the Government to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter and clear Shri Lalboi Vaiphei’s name of these baseless allegations. We further request the Government to take necessary steps to halt the circulation of such false accusations in order to ensure his safety, dignity, and protection.

The Kuki-Zo Council also appreciates the initiative of the Chief Minister of Manipur in holding discussions with the United Naga Council (UNC) regarding the prevailing situation. However, in the interest of fairness, justice, and balanced governance, we sincerely request the Government to also engage in dialogue with Kuki-Zo leaders. Failure to do so may create a public perception that the Government is listening to only one side of the issue.

At this critical juncture, we further urge the Government to leave no stone unturned in tracing the hostages, whether dead or alive, and to take all necessary measures to resolve this unfortunate situation once and for all. The Kuki-Zo people do not want another conflict, and every effort must be made to preserve peace, harmony, and coexistence among communities.

It appears that the merciless killing of the three senior Kuki-Zo pastors is being overshadowed by the hostage situation. There is growing concern that public attention is being diverted from the brutal murder of the three pastors.

We earnestly request your good office to make every possible effort to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this heinous crime against innocent church leaders who dedicated their lives to serving humanity and promoting peace.

We hope and trust that your office will take urgent and appropriate action in the interest of justice, peace, and public safety.

Taphou Kuki Villagers Hold Sit-in Protest Demanding Release of 14 Hostages

Kangpokpi, 25 May 2026: – Residents of Taphou Kuki village in Kangpokpi district staged a sit-in protest on Monday, demanding the unconditional release of 14 villagers allegedly held hostage by Senapati district-based Naga(Manipur Naga) civil society organisations led by the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA).

Protesters, mostly women dressed in traditional white shawls, gathered within the village premises holding placards that read “BRING THEM BACK,” “OUR FAMILIES DESERVE ANSWERS,” and “WE TRUSTED SECURITY.” A banner behind them displayed photos of the detained individuals under the heading: “AN EARNEST APPEAL FOR THE SAFE RELEASE OF OUR INNOCENT FAMILY MEMBERS.”

According to demonstrators, the 14 villagers were allegedly taken hostage by SDSA-led Naga groups following the 13 May ambush in which three Kuki pastors were killed. The protesters termed the detention of civilians “inhumane” and said, “UNTIL THEY RETURN, OUR VILLAGE WILL NOT REST.”

The villagers appealed to authorities and concerned organisations to intervene immediately to ensure the safe return of the hostages and to prevent further escalation of tension in the area.

The protest comes amid an extended total shutdown across Kuki-Zo inhabited areas called by Kuki Inpi Manipur over the same incident.

📢 MUIVAH'S REFUGEE PLEA REJECTED ON GROUNDS OF COMMITTING WAR CRIMES:

🔸️NSCN-IM Supremo Th.Muivah appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to recognize him as a REFUGEE but UNHCR rejected his plea for REFUGEE STATUS under A/1F of 1951 Convention on grounds of substantiated evidence indicating he committed WAR CRIMES & other grave non-political crimes. This determination came after his detention in Thailand.
