Immunization is fundamental to #HealthyBeginnings.
For children who have never never had a single vaccine dose, #HopefulFutures are not a given.
This #WorldHealthDay, we’re spotlighting our work with @WHO’s Immunization, Vaccines & Biologicals Dept to change that. 👇

This moment, painful as it is, presents a chance to shift our gaze.
But we won’t take the chance if we can’t really see it, and we can’t see it if we don’t think we are as unjust in our ways as we really are.
That, for me, is the question. Do we really think things are unjust?
Today at #WEF25, I challenged the belief that private money shld be involved in healthcare. Private money will never guarantee the right to health for all. The people we @UNAIDS work for will always need public healthcare that is free at the point of use.

"Why is the term “health security” used when perhaps simply saying “public health” would do?"
Please read our new essay — led by @Sydney_Uni PhD researcher @DAkhavein — asking a question we should all ask whenever we say "health security": Why is ‘public health’ not enough?
A reflective essay (& my first paper!) on what it means to use 'health security' framing in global health and why we ought to reflect.

I am grateful to be in Geneva, spending time with my family and celebrating the New Year after the @UN mission to negotiate the release of our colleagues and the bombardment at Sana’a Airport by Israel as we attempted to leave #Yemen. I am okay, but I have developed tinnitus (ringing in my ears) from the loud explosion. I hope it will be temporary.
We knew this mission would be risky, but we undertook it for the sake of our United Nations colleagues who have been detained by the Houthis since 2021, with many being held since earlier this year. While the negotiations for their release were constructive, they were often disrupted, postponed, or even canceled due to drones flying overhead. We continue to advocate for their release.
Although I am safe, I can’t stop thinking about my colleagues who remain in #Yemen and elsewhere, serving people in challenging conditions. Their lives are on the line every moment of every day. Our world needs peace.
War only brings death, destruction, displacement, and deprivation.
The focus should be on finding a political solution that brings lasting peace for generations to come.
The best medicine is peace!
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year!
