In the APES land unit we learned that water soaks into grass, crops, etc. This can be a determining factor for farmers, and landowners. In this case, once the snow melts it will deep into the grass and help nourish the vegetation. @franklinlorax#apesland
Bubbl’rs are a good source of caffeine that provide humans with energy. similar to this, fertilizers are good for plants but when given too much, it could be harmful. just like if someone drinks too much red bull it can be really bad for you. @franklinlorax#apesland
This is a Christmas Cactus! The makeup of our soils can make or break products it helps create. The ideal pH of the soil for this plant should be 5.5 to 6.2. Also, as you can see, there is much humus in the soil which helps create a nutrient filled soil. #apesland@franklinlorax
GMO’s that allow for more crops to grow that people like. But they also cause long term health effects that are uncertain. You can tell when something has no GMO’s when it it has the USDA ORGANIC circle on it like these thyme leaves. #apespop@franklinlorax
My parents had 2 kids. This is similar to the USA’s 2022 total fertility rate, which was roughly 1.7 kids per woman. In MDC’s, education and cultural trends lead to smaller families. In less developed Nigeria, the average family has 5.31 kids! #apespop@franklinlorax
One way we reduce our ecological footprint is by carpooling! Carpooling reduces the amount of carbon emissions released into the air whenever we drive a car or other motor vehicle. We are also a part of the population! @franklinlorax#apespop
This is my dog Nessie! She is a great example of a K selected species because dogs like her don’t have many offspring. Dogs also care for their offspring more before letting them go!

The pioneer species of lichen can be seen on trees in my yard, showing remnants of the beginning of the primary succession process. #apesecology@franklinlorax
After going to the Oak creek water treatment plant, I learned all about the process of cleaning water from Lake Michigan. This gives me clean water to use in my house! @franklinlorax#apeswater
During the APES field trip the class saw a glacier lake. This is a body of water that originates from a glacier. It typically forms at the foot of a glacier, on, in, or under it. As Earth's climate warms, the world's glaciers are shrinking creating lakes like these! #apeswater
A brita filter water bottle can filter out harmful toxins and/or chemicals that may be in tap water. It can also help decrease pollutants in large bodies of water as it is reusable! @franklinlorax#apeswater
